Check out the designs and voices of the Amazoness Quartet from the upcoming Sailor Moon Eternal films!

Sailor Moon Eternal - The Amazoness Quartet

The Sailor Moon official site has been updated with images and the voice cast of the Amazoness Quartet from the upcoming Sailor Moon Eternal films! Though we don’t know exactly how the two films will be broken up I would assume these characters would mostly feature in the second film, coming out February 11th in Japan, and perhaps appear only briefly in the first film which will be in Japanese theatres January 8th. The Amazoness Quartet are part of the Dead Moon Circus and include CereCere, PallaPalla, JunJun and VesVes, all of which are named after asteroids or dwarf planets in our solar system. I certainly hope we’ll also get a look at the Sailor Quartet at the end of the second film!

Sailor Moon Eternal - Reina Ueda as CereCere

CereCere will be voiced by Reina Ueda, a voice actress who’s appeared in a number of anime and video games including the voice of Mallow in Pokémon: Sun & Moon anime.

Sailor Moon Eternal - Sumire Morohoshi as PallaPalla

PallaPalla is voiced by Sumire Morohoshi, a singer and voice actress who’s performed many roles including Acerola from the Pokémon: Sun & Moon anime and Nina from Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood.

Sailor Moon Eternal - Yuko Hara as JunJun

JunJun is voiced by Yuko Hara, a voice actress who’s done a number of anime series including small parts in Ghost in the Shell Arise and Akari Acura in Chaika the Coffin Princess.

Sailor Moon Eternal - Rie Takahashi as VesVes

VesVes is voiced by Rie Takahashi, a voice actress and singer who has appeared in many anime series and video games including Mirai Asahina aka Cure Miracle, the main character in Witchy PreCure!

What do you think of these new designs? Are you a fan of any other roles that these actresses have done?

Check out these new stills from the Sailor Moon Eternal films

Sailor Moon Eternal sample stills

Update – 2020-08-14: The original post categorized these as a leak as I was not aware that these images had been posted to the official site.

A collection of 10 new stills from the first of the two Sailor Moon Eternal films has been posted to the Official Sailor Moon site. The post advertises a collaboration with Lawson convenience stores for a number of products. These 10 stills will be available from Lawson photocopiers. Though we’d already seen a couple of these, most of them seem to be new showing us single frames from animation which will likely be seen in Sailor Moon Eternal Part 1, which will be released in theatres on January 8th 2021.

Here’s a look at each still individually.

Sailor Moon Eternal Part 1 - Transformation Sequence - Super Sailor Chibi Moon and Super Sailor Moon

Super Sailor Chibi Moon and Super Sailor Moon posing. We had already seen this as part of footage which was already released so this is a higher quality image than the other samples.

Sailor Moon Eternal - Sailor Mercury poses

Sailor Mercury posing during her post transformation speech. The pose is similar to past seasons but the designs are updated.

Sailor Moon Eternal - Sailor Mars poses

Sailor Mars posing. Again the same pose with new designs. Her wrist seems a bit less limp if that makes sense.

Sailor Moon Eternal - Sailor Jupiter poses

Sailor Jupiter posing. Her hair isn’t holding as well as it has.

Sailor Moon Eternal - Sailor Venus poses

Sailor Venus posing. Her finger seems to keep getting bigger.

Sailor Moon Eternal trailer - Super Sailor Moon and Mamoru

Super Sailor Moon hugging a faceless Mamoru. We’ve seen this one already as well.

Sailor Moon Eternal - Pegasus and Chibiusa

Pegasus and Chibiusa. Many have pointed out that Pegasus is pony sized in these films.
He does seem to be a bit smaller than what we’d seen in the first Sailor Moon anime, but Chibiusa’s size is a bit inconsistent in Sailor Moon Crystal. An earlier image of Chibiusa and Pegasus which we saw made him look much smaller.

Sailor Moon Eternal - Helios

Helios. We’d seen his designs but this is the first actual frame of him that we’ve seen.

Sailor Moon Eternal - Artemis, Diana and Luna

Artemis, Diana and Luna. Luna’s eyes are now blue, while they were red in previous seasons. This may be so that her eye colour is consistent with human Luna who we will be saying likely in the second film which will be released on February 11th 2021.

Sailor Moon Eternal - The Amazon Trio

The Amazon Trio. Striking a pose!

At this point we are certainly seeing more and more of the art style. While I would like to see more of it in action these stills give us a decent indication of what we’re in for next year. What do you think?

Character designs and the voice cast for the Amazon Trio from the Sailor Moon Eternal films have been revealed

Sailor Moon Eternal - The Amazon Trio

We’ve finally got our first look at some of the Dead Moon Circus’s villains from the upcoming Sailor Moon Eternal films! The Sailor Moon official site has been updated with character designs and the voice actors who will be playing the Amazon Trio in the first of the Sailor Moon Eternal movies. Tiger’s Eye will be voiced by Satoshi Hino, Hawk’s Eye will be voiced by Toshiyuki Toyonaga and Fish Eye will be voiced by Shouta Aoi.

Sailor Moon Eternal - Tiger's Eye - Satoshi Hino

Satoshi Hino, the voice of Tiger’s Eye, is a voice actor who’s been featured in many anime shows including Yuuji Sakai in Shakugan no Shana and Kamui in Gintama. Today happens to be his birthday!

Sailor Moon Eternal - Hawk's Eye - Toshiyuki Toyonaga

Toshiyuki Toyonaga is an actor, voice actor and singer. In anime he voiced Katsuki Yuri in Yuri on Ice. He’s released many singles including the theme song for the anime Durarara!! in which he also voiced Mikado. You can follow Toshiyuki Toyonaga on Twitter @TossuiKUN.

Sailor Moon Eternal - Fish Eye - Shouta Aoi

Shouta Aoi is a singer, stage actor and voice actor. He originally sang under the name SHOWTA but later took on the pseudonym Noboru Ryugaki for independent music he released after 2009. He now releases music under the name Shouta Aoi. On stage he has performed roles such as Saki Hanajima in the live adaptation of Fruits Basket. He’s had many anime roles such as Ai Mikaze in Uta no Prince-sama and Rui Minazuki in Tsukiuta.

The first of the Sailor Moon Eternal films will be released on January 8th 2021. The film will cover the first half of the Dream arc of the Sailor Moon manga in which the Amazon Trio, members of the Dead Moon Circus, are the main villains. They will likely only be appearing in the first film with the Amazoness Quartet appearing in the second half which will be released on February 11th 2021.

What do you think of these designs? Are you a fan of any of these voice actors and their other roles?

To celebrate Tuxedo Mask’s birthday we get our first look at his designs from the Sailor Moon Eternal films

Sailor Moon Eternal - Tuxedo Mask

August 3rd is Mamoru Chiba’s birthday and what better way to celebrate than to have our first look at Tuxedo Mask’s character designs for the upcoming Sailor Moon Eternal films? What do you think? He’s got the Tuxedo and the Mask. No top hat but that isn’t that odd as he’s often not wearing his hat in the manga and Sailor Moon Crystal. He’s got little dots in his hair but I’ll assume this won’t be something we will be seeing in the actual film.

The first of the Sailor Moon Eternal films will be released on January 8th and will feature the first half of the Dream story arc of the Sailor Moon manga. Mamoru features prominently in this story arc so we should see a fair amount of this design in these films.

We’ve now seen pretty much everyone except for every single villain. With January fast approaching one would hope we’ll get to see some of the Dead Moon Circus, starting with the Amazon Trio and Zirconia, some time soon!

We get our first look at Sailor Uranus, Neptune, Pluto and Saturn from the Sailor Moon Eternal films in ads for Bufferin pain killers

Bufferin x Sailor Moon Eternal - Our first look at Sailor Uranus, Pluto, Neptune and Saturn

In a collaboration which would have surprised me a decade ago but doesn’t phase me in the least these days pain killer brand Bufferin has teamed up with Sailor Moon Eternal for their latest campaign. Art from this features our first look at the designs for Sailor Uranus, Neptune, Pluto and Saturn from the upcoming Sailor Moon Eternal films. What do you think of their new look? This seems to be a lazy placement of the characters with Sailor Neptune’s hand clearly positioned to be holding Sailor Uranus’s but the two’s hands never quite seem to overlap.

Bufferin x Sailor Moon Eternal - Our first look at Sailor Uranus, Neptune, Pluto and Saturn

Bufferin is a brand of aspirin, acetylsalicylic acid, which used to be available here in Canada but which isn’t sold here anymore. The brand still seems fairly common in the US and in Japan. I don’t take aspirin due to some conflicting health issues I have, so be sure to consult your doctor or pharmacist if you aren’t sure what pain killers might be appropriate for you. The campaign will feature Sailor Moon characters on product packages. Thanks to commenter nonameq9 who shared one of these images in the comments.

Bufferin x Sailor Moon Eternal - Our first look at Sailor Saturn

The Bufferin site has now been updated with a Sailor Moon section which shows the updated art as well as ads featuring Kotono Mitsuishi, the voice of Sailor Moon. There’s also a quiz which fans can complete for a chance to win either a Luna cushion or Super Sailor Moon Room Wear. Certain screens on that quiz can give a higher resolution view of some of the characters which I’ve included in this post.

Bufferin x Sailor Moon Eternal - Our first look at Sailor Uranus

The first of the Sailor Moon Eternal films will be in theatres on January 8th and will tell the first half of the Dream story arc from the Sailor Moon manga. We previously saw the civilian forms of Haruka, Michiru, Setsuna and Hotaru in an ad for Ichiban Kuji. There is some other art of them in their civilian forms in a recent ad campaign for J!NS glasses.

Sailor Moon Eternal x J!NS

It isn’t clear how much involvement these character would have in the first film as they are mostly absent from the early half of this story arc of the manga. My own expectation is that the film will end with a short appearance of Michiru Mama, Haruka Papa, Setsuna Mama and the younger version of Hotaru who was a baby when we last saw her at the end of the Infinity arc. What do you think?

Watch the Sailor Moon: The Power of Female Friendship panel today at Comic-Con@Home

Comic-Con @ Home

This afternoon, July 25th 2020, at 3pm Pacific Time (6pm Eastern Time) fans will be able to watch a virtual Sailor Moon Panel, Sailor Moon: The Power of Female Friendship, live on YouTube. This is part of San-Diego Comic-Con’s virtual convention which is being held this year instead of a live convention which would be impossible due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The panel will be hosted by comic book historian Jessica Tseang and includes voice actors from Viz’s new dub of Sailor Moon including Michelle Ruff, the voice of Luna, Kate Higgins, the voice of Sailor Mercury, Amanda Celine Miller, the voice of Sailor Jupiter, as well as comic book writer Sam Maggs, and comedian Chris Bryant.

To view the panel head over the Comic-Con site or watch it directly on YouTube (the video will likely be unavailable until shortly before the event starts). It seems like other panels remain available after the original live broadcast so fans who aren’t able to watch the panel live or are seeing this post too late should still be okay to watch it.

Will you be checking out the panel? For those reading this in the future, did you watch the panel and what did you think?

Watch Super Sailor Moon and Super Sailor Chibi Moon’s transformation sequence from the Sailor Moon Eternal movie

Sailor Moon Eternal Part 1 - Transformation Sequence - Chibiusa and Usagi

Today, June 30th, is Usagi’s birthday! To celebrate a special video has been released on the official Sailor Moon site which includes a bunch of junk no one cares about and a clip from the upcoming Sailor Moon Eternal movie! The clip shows Super Sailor Moon and Super Sailor Chibi Moon’s transformation sequence. You can watch the clip by viewing the embedded YouTube video below. I’ve cued it up to 2 minutes and 44 seconds when the footage starts.

What can I saw about this footage? It is obviously nearly identical to the transformation from Sailor Moon SuperS. Surely the Sailor Moon Eternal film, like Sailor Moon SuperS, is based on the Dream arc of the Sailor Moon manga so we should expect there to be some similarities but this is next level. Every turn and pose is replicated in this footage. The designs are updated but these are the movements we have already seen. Not convinced? Check out this side by side comparison!

The rest of the footage is just a slideshow of products which I suppose fans may find mildly interesting!

Sailor Moon Eternal Part 1 - Transformation Sequence - Super Sailor Chibi Moon and Super Sailor Moon

Sailor Moon Eternal Part 1 will be out in theatres in Japan starting January 8th. The second part will be out the next month on February 11th. We don’t yet have any details about an international release of the film.

Keep reading for more screenshots of the video.

The release of Sailor Moon Eternal Part 1 is delayed from September 11th to January 8th due to COVID-19. Part 2 is coming February 11th.

Sailor Moon Eternal poster

An announcement posted on the Sailor Moon Official Site has mentioned that the release of the upcoming Sailor Moon Eternal film has been delayed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Sailor Moon Eternal Part 1 was originally scheduled to be released in theatres in Japan starting on September 11th 2020 but this release date has now been pushed back to January 8th 2021. In addition to this we also now have a release date for Part 2 of the film, which will be released on February 11th 2021.

We currently have no indication of how or when the film will be released outside of Japan. September 11th was less than three months away when this delay was announced, but we had gotten no news about a simultaneous international release. Were this something which had been planned, I suspect we may have gotten some news about it by now.

Sailor Moon Eternal Part 1 will cover the first half of the Dream Arc of the Sailor Moon manga. Part 2 will cover the second half. We hadn’t gotten much in the way of details about the second film but with the movie’s release coming up so quickly after the first film, it seems likely that we might get some details about it soon.

I hope none of you had any plans to be in Japan by September of this year! It seems a bit early to be travelling due to the ongoing pandemic. Hopefully the situation will have improved enough by January that some of you are able to travel to see the film and that fans in Japan are able to make it to theatres in safety. While theatres have started to gradually start opening up in Japan and around the world recently, this still presents a risk and movie goers are taking many precautions while attending screenings.

Stay safe and stay healthy everyone!

A new trailer and poster for the upcoming Sailor Moon Eternal film have been revealed

Sailor Moon Eternal poster

A new poster and trailer have been revealed on the Sailor Moon official site! The poster is above and you can watch the trailer embedded below.

This confirms that the trailer which was making the rounds last month was in fact authentic. The trailer we see here, aside from some minor changes, includes all of the same footage which we saw in lower quality in the leaked trailer which we had posted about.

Sailor Moon Eternal trailer - Sailor Moon S intro

At the time I assumed the footage from the Sailor Moon S intro was some kind of placeholder but even that in fact was included in the actual trailer! The rest of the trailer gives us a look at Usagi, Chibiusa, Pegasus, Mamoru and the Sailor Guardians Super Sailor Moon, Super Sailor Chibi Moon, Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, Sailor Jupiter and Sailor Venus.

Sailor Moon Eternal - Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Pegasus/Helios

Also revealed today is that the voice of Pegasus and Helios will be provided by Yoshitsugu Matsuoka. He is a veteran voice actor who voiced Kirito in Sword Art Online and has appeared in numerous other anime series.

Sailor Moon Eternal trailer - Usagi Tsukino

What do you think of the trailer? Do you regret calling out the terrible animation when you thought it was a fake? Let us know in the comments!

Keep reading for more screenshots from this trailer! These ones are of a higher quality than the ones which were posted last time!

New art showing the Sailor Moon Eternal designs for all Sailor Guardians is included in a product ad for Ichiban Kuji

Sailor Moon Eternal - Let's Party - Usagi and Chibiusa

The Sailor Moon official site has been updated with an ad for some upcoming products from the Ichiban Kuji line which includes some new art! The images used in the advertisement include a look at all of the Sailor Guardians using the art style of the upcoming Sailor Moon Eternal films, which is the two part movie adaptation of Sailor Moon’s Dream Arc, the continuation of the Sailor Moon Crystal series. The theme is “Let’s Party” so we mostly see the characters in party dresses.

Sailor Moon Eternal - Let's Party - Makoto, Rei, Usagi, Minako, Ami, Chibiusa, Michiru, Haruka, Setsuna and Hotaru

The main banner shows us Usagi and Chibiusa, though we’ve seen those two before in this art style so it’s nothing too shocking. What’s more interesting are the first official depictions of Michiru, Haruka, Setsuna and Hotaru. Though we don’t know exactly at what point in the story the first Sailor Moon Eternal film will end it is unlikely these characters will have a prominent part in the film as their roles are mostly contained in the later half of the manga’s Dream arc. I suspect we could be ending the movie with a brief appearance by them, but we shall see in September, assuming the film is released as it was originally anticipated.

Sailor Moon Eternal - Let's Party - Products

We also see everyone in their Sailor Guardian forms which all appear to be their Super outfits, though it’s a bit hard to see from the photos! You’ll need to look closely to try to make out details. For the above image just click on the thumbnail and then the image size (670×1030) to view it in full size.

Sailor Moon Eternal - Let's Party - Usagi and Chibiusa

What do you think of these designs? Do you think we’ll be getting Sailor Moon Eternal by September 11th 2020 are it is currently planned?
