Fans know Terri Hawkes as the English voice of Sailor Moon from the 90s. Though she was one of three actresses to lend her voice to the character, and the second from the DiC dub of the series, she did the majority of the episodes in the first two seasons and is the voice many 90s fans in Canada and the United States associate with Sailor Moon who in that version went by the name Serena. That dub was recorded in Toronto, where Terri Hawkes lived at the time and still does today, where she is running for City Councillor in Ward 11, University Rosedale. You can check out her campaign web site and watch this video where she explains who she’s qualified.
I don’t live in Toronto, though as a Canadian living a few hours drive from there I have been to the city often throughout my life. As luck would have it the two times I visited last year I did stay at a hotel located within that particular Ward. I have no opinions on Toronto Municipal politics so I’m not going to tell you who to vote for in this election! It just seems fans may be interested to see what Terri Hawkes is up to. I wish her the best of luck in this campaign!
Terri Hawkes’s family has experience in the world of politics. Her father, Jim Hawkes, was a member of Parliament for 14 years!
As a sign of how much time has passed since the show was first dubbed, Terri Hawkes mentions that her children are now adults. She stopped voicing Sailor Moon when she was pregnant back in the 90s!
I had the pleasure of meeting Terri Hawkes at a local anime convention back in 2013. Check out the interview we did at the time!
