Pretty Kitty Fuzzy, a Sailor Moon inspired video game, is coming this summer

An upcoming Sailor Moon inspired video game is looking for funding on Kickstarter. Pretty Kitty Fuzzy is a 2D shooter starring a cat which is based on magical girl anime like Sailor Moon and a real life house cat named Fuzzy. This is a retro style game inspired heavily by SNES era 16 shooters. Pledges as low as $5 can get the game, though pledging more will lead to special incentives. The game will be made for Windows, Mac and Linux if $2000 is reached, though there are stretch goals if more funds are collected. Incentives include a manga, poster, t-shirt and soundtrack. Stretch goals include an animated opening, an extra mini game and possible ports to other systems.

Today is International Sailor Moon Day. Is your city doing anything to celebrate?

Today, August 15th 2015, is International Sailor Moon Day. This event is not confined to any single city as many cities around the world are celebrating small Sailor Moon gatherings in their own cities. Sailor Dash, a fan made Sailor Moon video game for Android mobile phones

There’s a new Sailor Moon video game but it’s not what you might expect. Pretty Guardian Sailor Dash is a new Japanese fan made app for Android cell phones. It’s available for free in the Google Play store. The gameplay is pretty simple. You are Sailor Moon and you scroll through the screen automatically. You can jump or shoot as well as use a special button to consume all of your energy to do a special move. Special items included in the game include Luna P, the Holy Grail, the Key of Space-Time and many of Sailor Moon’s transformation items.

I’m not sure what other levels may entail as the game is really hard and I haven’t passed the first stage. I seem to inevitably end up falling in a hole with some missed jump rather than running out of health. Different levels seem to be named after different Sailor Guardians though it’s unclear if you actually play as them or not.

The game is free and supported by ads. If you disable mobile data and WiFi the ads won’t show up.

Moon Animate Make-Up! reanimates an entire episode of Sailor Moon with 250 different animators

Some fans have accomplished a pretty amazing undertaking, reanimating an entire episode of Sailor Moon. This group effort was made by 250 different animators each doing a short piece of an episodes. The result is nothing short of remarkable as the entire episode can be viewed with this showcase of a wide variety of different animation styles. You can view it below.

The episode which was used is episode 38 of the original Sailor Moon anime “Fracticious Friends”. The audio included, and video which was used as inspiration, was that of the DIC English dub. It even includes special effect transitions and the Sailor Says segment that accompanies the episode. This corresponds to episode 43 in the Japanese ordering of the series. The plot for this episode has the Sailor Scouts faking a rivalry in order to infiltrate the Negaverse. To put it in context, for those what haven’t seen the series in a while, these events take place while Tuxedo Mask has been brainwashed and kept captive by the Negaverse and so the plot is done so that Sailor Moon can get access to him and break him out.

This is a truly fantastic accomplishment. Everyone involved with this project should be very proud of what they’ve accomplished. Keep reading for a few more examples of the animation, but you really should just take the time to watch the whole thing to get an idea of what this is really about. Episode 1 of Sailor Moon Crystal edited with DIC dub audio

Here’s something cool that a fan whipped up. It’s the first episode of Sailor Moon Crystal edited to fit with dialog from the first episode of the English dub of the original Sailor Moon anime. It actually fits quite well though the episode is shorter than the full version as some scenes did not exist in both version. In a few instances a short clip from the original anime is included but for the most part it’s video from Sailor Moon Crystal and audio from the old Sailor Moon anime. She even included a Sailor Says segment! Watch the episode in the embedded clip below.

Since both the first episode of Sailor Moon Crystal and the original Sailor Moon anime followed the manga closely this fits very well. Only in a few scenes did things not really work, such as Molly talking to Serena who isn’t actually in the room, but it mostly worked. A similar exercise would probably work decently for act 2 and potentially act 3 as the episodes where Ami and Rei are introduced in the original Sailor Moon anime followed the manga quite well. I spoke to Jessica who created this clip about the possibility of more episodes but there are currently no plans to do so as this would become impossible as the series progresses and deviates greatly from the source material.

The Sailor Moon cosplaying Chihuahuas have new costumes!

A few month ago we posted some photos of some chihuahuas cosplaying as characters from Sailor Moon. Instagram user mayama_ya has made more costumes for her dogs as can be seen in these new photos! The new outfits are Sailor Neptune, Sailor Uranus, Sailor Pluto and Sailor Saturn, the Sailor Guardians from the outer solar system. Watch this video of the dogs on their new costumes.

Since our last update there were a lot more photos added to her Instragram account including photos of one of her dogs dressed as Sailor Chibi Moon. Check out a few of those photos below.

Fan Fiction The Show Sailor Moon returns to Toronto with Linda Ballantyne and Toby Proctor June 19th

Fan Fiction is returning to Toronto and this time Linda Ballantyne, the voice of Sailor Moon, will be joining Toby Proctor, the voice of Tuxedo Mask, at this comedy special. The show takes place Thursday June 19th at 9:30pm at the Comedy Bar at 945 Bloor St. West in downtown Toronto.

Fan Fiction The Show is a recurring comedy special that consists of a live comedic reading of Fan Fiction of one franchise or another with various comedians playing the parts of characters from these franchises. Fan Fiction The Show Sailor Moon was a great success when it first took place last July and had Toby Proctor dressed up as Tuxedo Mask for his performance. Schedule of Sailor Moon related events at Anime North

Anime North 2013 is fast approaching. It will take place May 24th to the 26th in Toronto. As we’ve mentioned earlier there are four voice actors from the English dub of Sailor Moon in appearance, that being Linda Ballantyne, the voice of Sailor Moon from the later seasons, Katie Griffin, the voice of Sailor Mars, Susan Roman, the voice of Sailor Jupiter, and John Stocker who did many smaller roles but also worked as voice director for many later episodes and movies. The Anime North schedule is now online on their web site and we’ve combed through it to pick out all the relevant information related to Sailor Moon!

There are five panels featuring voice actors and staff from Sailor Moon.

Friday from 6:00 to 7:00 pm John Stocker will be part of the “Behind the Mic” panel which includes a few voice actors. This will take place in the Toronto Room.

Friday from 8:00 to 9:30 pm the panel “Ask an Anime Character” will include Linda Ballentine, Katie Griffin and Susan Roman as well as voice actor Trina Nishimura. This will also take place in the Toronto Room.

Saturday from 1:00 to 2:00 pm there are two panels taking place to compete for Sailor Moon fans’ time. John Stocker will join others in the “So Many Voices” panel in Plaza C while Linda Ballentine, Katie Griffin and Susan Roman will be doing the “Memories of the 80s” panel in Toronto Panels.

Saturday from 5:00 to 6:00 pm will be the “Sailormoon Voice Actors Q&A” in Toronto Panels. The guests are not mentioned by name in the schedule but I think we can take a guess at who might be in attendance.

Sailor Moon as drawn by Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt artist TAGRO

TAGRO, a Japanese manga artist best known for drawing the Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt manga, has done some interesting Sailor Moon fan art. TAGRO does tons of art of various anime characters and Sailor Moon seems to be his latest interest. He’s drawn all five of the main Sailor Soldiers and Tuxedo Mask to date. The art style is certainly a change for Sailor Moon, making the characters look like something out of Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt characterized by their super deformed “chibi” look and lack of feet. The various high rez group shots make great desktop backgrounds for a wide screen display.

Sailor Moon characters made in Soul Calibur V

Here’s a video of all of the main Sailor Moon characters made with the character creation mode of Soul Calibur V.

This video was put together by artist Cat With Dark Eyes. You can check out more of her stuff on Facebook or Deviant Art.

The song featured in the video is Ai no Senshi by Yoko Ishida. This song was used in episode 68 when Rebeus and the Ayakashi Sisters face off against Sailor Moon, Tuxedo Mask and the rest of the Sailor Team. It is also played in episode 102 when Haruka gives Usagi a ride in her sweet car.
