A new Sailor Moon Musical coming this summer will take place in Crystal Tokyo and feature the Black Moon Clan

Sailor Moon - Crystal Tokyo devastated

A new Sailor Moon musical has been announced on the Sailor Moon official site. Not many details have been given but we do know that this musical will follow the Black Moon story arc of the Sailor Moon manga or the Sailor Moon R season of the anime which takes place in 30th century Crystal Tokyo following the battle with the Black Moon Clan. Though Chibiusa is not mentioned by name it stands to reason that this musical will feature her introduction as well as her transformation into Black Lady. No details about the cast have been revealed but the announcement mentions that this will be announced on the site in the near future.

This will be the second modern Sailor Moon musical following Sailor Moon La Reconquista which played last September.

Sailor Moon Moonlight Memory Series Disguise Pen

Another great cosplay accessory is coming this July. Sailor Moon’s Disguise Pen, known as the Luna Pen in the English dub, has been announced on the official Sailor Moon site. The toy is called the “Moonlight Memory Series Light Disguise Pen”. It’s a high quality replica which lights up and actually writes! Unlike Usagi’s pen it does not appear that this gives collectors the ability to transform into a costume of their choice.

The pen will be available for preorder later this week from Bandai Premium Bandai for 4860 yen (about $47 US) and will be released in July. It is currently also up for preorder at CD Japan for 6400 yen (about $62 US).

Volumes 9 and 10 the Sailor Moon Manga Complete Editions are now out

Sailor Moon Manga Complete Collection - Vol. 9 and 10

Last week, March 25th, volumes 9 and 10 of the Sailor Moon Manga Complete Editions were released in Japan. Volume 9 features Endymion and Serenity on the cover while volume 10 features all 10 Sailor Guardians. This concludes the story of the Sailor Moon manga with the Stars story arc featuring Galaxia and the Starlights. Volumes 11 and 12 of the manga will be released later this month and will likely contain Code Name Sailor V and the Parallel Sailor Moon story, as that’s all that has not been published to date. Parallel Sailor Moon was originally published only in the Materials Collection Artbook but also added with the 2004 edition of the manga which is what we recently saw translated into English by Kodansha Comics USA. As with other volumes this complete edition features all colour pages previously only seen in the pages of Nakayoshi where they were originally published.

With most of these two books dedicated to wrapping up the main story we only have one side story included, that being the final Chibiusa’s Picture Diary story, the Secret of the Hammer Price Shrine. This story has Chibiusa and Hotaru getting into high jynx with their trendy friends Naruru, Naru’s sister, and Ruruna who dress up as Sailor Guardians who fans refer to as Sailor Channel and Sailor Guccicci.

Two great looking Sailor Moon shirts are for sale today only for $12 from Arteesel. The sale ends at the end of the day on March 31st. The first, a new shirt, is “Soldier of Flame and Passion” showing a silhouette of Sailor Mars. The other is “Sailor Pop“, showing Sailor Moon, Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Mars and Luna in a Pop Art style.

The “Soldier of Flame and Passion” shirt is designed by sigma-astra who designed a Sailor Mercury version in this style, “Soldier of Water and Wisdom“, which previously sold on Arteesel. Sailor Moon Pullip doll coming this summer

Sailor Moon Pullip doll

A Sailor Moon Pullip doll was shown last weekend at Anime Japan 2014. Information about this doll was also posted to the official Sailor Moon site. Pullips are Korean designed fashion dolls with very large heads. They are highly detailed and posable, including blinking eyes. They are about 12″ tall with bodies that are 1:6 scale and heads that are 1:3 scale. Pricing has not been confirmed but Pullip dolls usually sell for over $100, sometimes closer to the $200 range.

Anime Boston to feature Yuko Minaguchi, the Japanese voice of Sailor Saturn, as well as Linda Ballantyne, Toby Proctor and John Stocker May 21st to the 23rd

Anime Boston is this coming weekend, May 21st to the 23rd, at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston and they will be hosting a number of great Sailor Moon voice actors! Yuko Minaguchi, the original Japanese voice of Sailor Saturn, will be in attendance along with English voice actors Linda Ballantyne, the voice of Sailor Moon, Toby Proctor, the voice of Tuxedo Mask, and John Stocker, voice director for the later seasons of the English dub of Sailor Moon.

Yuko Minaguchi will have a panel at 5pm on Friday and will be available for autographs on Saturday at 5:30pm. On Friday at 1pm there will be a “voices of Sailor Moon” panel, though which actors that includes in not clear. Linda Ballantyne, Toby Proctor and John Stocker will be signing autographs on Friday at 4pm. They will have individual panels throughout the weekend. John Stocker’s panel is at 2pm on Friday afternoon. Linda Ballantyne’s panel will be at 10:30am Saturday morning. Toby Proctor’s panel is at 12:30pm on Saturday.

We’ve finally got a look at what Sailor Moon will be looking like in the new anime series, titled Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal, which is confirmed to begin airing this coming July. Along with this artwork, shown above, we have our first look at the logo for Sailor Moon Crystal as well as a synopsis of the story. The word Crystal in the title is a reference to the Silver Crystal, the object of immense power which drives much of the plot of the Dark Kingdom story arc.

Earlier today on the official Sailor Moon site a cryptic message went up stating only “8 days. Coming soon.”. Something big is coming, but have we already seen it? In the files hosted on the official site was this one (mirror) which was not linked on the main page. It featured the logo for the new series in which we see the title Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal, artwork of Sailor Moon and her Silver Crystal as well as a brief synopsis. This synopsis, as translated by Anime News Network, is included below:

Usagi Tsukino is a second-year middle school girl who is a little clumsy and a crybaby, but she is full of energy. One day, she meets Luna, a black cat with a crescent moon on her forehead, and she transforms into Sailor Moon, a sailor-uniformed pretty guardian of love and justice! As a chosen guardian of justice, Usagi seems to have a mission to find the Illusionary Silver Crystal with the other guardians and to protect the princess.
Meanwhile, the queen of the Dark Kingdom, Queen Beryl, also sends minions to the town where Usagi lives to obtain the Illusionary Silver Crystal, which has immense power. This causes strange events to unfold….

Can Sailor Moon really find the Illusionary Silver Crystal with the other Sailor guardians, and protect the princess…!?

Based on this we confirm once again that the anime series will be a retelling of the Dark Kingdom story arc where Sailor Moon fights Queen Beryl and searches for the Silver Crystal and the Moon Princess. From the logo we can see a sword which is likely the Holy Blade, also called the Sword of the Silver Crystal, a sword which is wielded by Sailor Venus in the Sailor Moon manga.

The rest of the image includes information we already know, mostly about cast announcements that have already been made. As always we will continue to bring you all new information about this new anime, Sailor Moon Crystal, as it becomes available.

Here are some photos of some Chihuahuas cosplaying as your favourite Sailor Soldiers! A Japanese Instagram user going by mayama_ya has made these cute Sailor Fuku for Sailor Moon, Mercury, Mars, Jupiter and Venus for her pet chihuahuas and taken a ton of pictures for you to enjoy. The detail in these costumes is better than I’ve seen in a lot of human sized cosplay efforts!
