Watch the K-pop band TWICE perform the Sailor Moon opening theme on SNL Korea

TWICE perform the Sailor Moon opening on SNL Korea

Fans of K-pop will love this video from last night’s SNL Korea. The Korean pop band TWICE were on Saturday Night Live Korea on October 29th. One of their skits was a recreation of the Sailor Moon opening theme which has as its music the Korean version of Moonlight Densetsu. The skit has members of the band TWICE playing Sailor Mercury, Mars, Jupiter and Venus as well as Kwon Hyuk Soo, the male host of SNL Korea, as Sailor Moon. Luna is played by a human and is absolutely creepy. You can watch the clip below.

Fans may notice that the scenes from this intro aren’t all from the original Japanese intro but from the intro of the first season and Sailor Moon R of the original anime. This is because the Korean opening to Sailor Moon, like the original English dubbed intro, has a mix of scenes from multiple openings. Check out the original Korean opening below for reference. The SNL Korea version isn’t a shot for shot remake but it does a pretty good job.

A young Iggy Azalea made gloves out of house paint to dress as Sailor Moon

Iggy Azalea as Sailor Moon

MTV has posted a video to their Facebook page which has Iggy Azalea sharing a story about her love of Sailor Moon. She explains that as children her and her sister, Emerald Kelly, used to watch Sailor Moon. One day they dipped their hands in house paint to have long white gloves like Sailor Guardians. Choas ensued and it seems their father wasn’t terribly happy about the mess they made in the yard. The video, seen below, includes some animated footage of Iggy Azalea as a Sailor Guardian. While Iggy is shown as Sailor Moon her younger sister Emerald is presented as Chibiusa. Watch the full video below.

Usagi is basically a tasty dessert in this upcoming Sweeties figure

Sailor Moon Sweeties figure

Do you like Sailor Moon and sweet desserts? Well this new line of “Sweeties” figures seems to basically be characters as some sort of sweet food? In this upcoming figure Usagi is dressed as a fruit parlor waitress sitting in a parfait glass with some whipped cream on her. She has a moon themed spoon in her hand which itself has whipped cream in it. If you have a weird thing about wanting to eat Usagi, this is the figure for you! It will be out in March and cost 5900 yen, about $58 US.

Sailor Moon Sweeties figure

I suppose we could say that this is somewhat Sailor Moon related as there is a “Fruits Parlor Crown” next to the Crown Arcade where the girls sometimes eat desserts. This is the first figure in this new line so it’s hard for me to say exactly what the recurring theme will be. Will other characters also appear in the same kind of food container? Different food containers? It’s a bit hard for me to completely appreciate this whole product since fruit parlors just aren’t a thing which is part of my culture but they are a thing in Japan, where this figure is being sold. As far as I can figure a fruit parlor is where you can pay a lot of money to get a little bowl of nicely arranged fruit and whipped cream.

I know what you’re all thinking. Why start with Usagi? Why not start with a Nephrite x Naru chocolate parfait? Big time missed opportunity but I hope they will make up for it in the future.

Could this be the next ridiculous figure in the series?

A Sailor Moon Crystal S. H. Figuarts figure is coming in January

Sailor Moon Crystal S. H. Figuarts

A new Sailor Moon Crystal S. H. Figuarts figure has been posted to the Tamashii Nations official site. This is Sailor Moon, once again, but this time it is a Sailor Moon Crystal version of Sailor Moon. We had previously gotten some Figuarts Zero statues in Sailor Moon Crystal versions but this is the first Sailor Moon Crystal S. H. Figuarts figure. S. H. Figuarts figures are high quality very posable figures with many extra faces and hands so that you can make them do pretty much anything you can imagine.

Sailor Moon Crystal S. H. Figuarts

This version of Sailor Moon has the Cosmic Heart Compact on her chest, from the Infinity Arc. Will more of the Sailor Guardians be released next? An S. H. Figuarts Sailor Moon Crystal Sailor Mercury would be the obvious next release. Who would you most like to see in this style of figure?

The figure will be released this January. No price has been announced yet but they usually sell for about $50 when first released domestically.

You will soon be able to buy Sailor Moon’s duvet cover and pillowcase

Sailor Moon comforter and pillowcase

Night time isn’t only for fighting evil by Moonlight! It’s also for sleeping! It has been announced on the Official Sailor Moon Site that Bandai will soon be releasing Usagi’s comforter and pillowcase from the original Sailor Moon anime! There have been a lot Sailor Moon themed blankets, comforters and bed sheets over the years but the official products usually featured an image of Sailor Moon on it. Well Sailor Moon doesn’t have Sailor Moon sheets on her bed! She does have a unique bedspread featuring Moons and rabbits, characteristic of Usagi herself. The Moons obviously relate to Sailor Moon and the Princess of the Moon and the rabbits would relate to Usagi’s name in Japanese meaning rabbit, a reference to the rabbit on the Moon legend in Japan.

Sailor Moon comforter and pillowcase pattern

The items in this set are a duvet cover, being referred to as a futon cover, and a pillowcase. We don’t really refer to comforters or duvets as futons in English. To me a futon is a weird transforming couch thing you buy in college but futon is a Japanese word and it means different things there. To them it refers to both the mattress and comforter. Since the Japanese invented the word and we adapted it and completely changed its meeting I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they are using it correctly. The duvet cover is 150x200cm which means it’s tiny. A twin is 168x 218 meaning I don’t know where you’d get a comforter that small. Japan would be a good place to start! A queen sized mattress is actually roughly 150x200cm but the norm in North America is to have a comforter that hangs off of the sides of a bed. Judging by the photo below this “futon” is roughly the size of the mattress itself.

Note also that Usagi doesn’t actually have this pattern on her pillowcase, which is simply white, so if you’re really trying to be authentic you should just use the duvet cover. The set will be released in November and will cost 7020 yen, about $70 US. If you don’t live in Japan you’ll probably have a bit of trouble ordering and shipping a set though.

These are individually made by artists Ale and Matt. They aren’t cheap, costing from 80 to 95 euro (about $90 to $106 US) but the cost reflects the hard work that goes into them and looks to be worth it based on how nice looking these are.
