Keiko Kitagawa, live action Sailor Mars, to star in Judge and an Akumu-chan movie

Keiko Kitagawa's new series Akumu chan starts October 13th

Keiko Kitagawa, Sailor Mars from the live action Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon TV series, has a couple of new movies in the works! She will star in a movie “Judge” and a movie sequel to the “Akumu-chan” TV series.

In “Judge” Keiko Kitagawa will star alongside Satoshi Tsumabuki who also appeared in Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift as the guy from the trailer who says “Go” to start the race. Although Keiko Kitagawa also starred in Tokyo Drift they did not share any scenes together until now. The movie is a comedy who’s plot has them pretending to be a couple. Filming will take place in August and September. The film is currently slated for a January release.

The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift - Satoshi Tsumabuki - "Go"

The Akumu-chan movie is a follow up to the 11 episode TV series which aired at the end of last year in Japan. This movie will have many actors reprising their roles as a new student joins Ayami’s (Keiko Kitagawa) class as her students all know him from their dreams while Yukio knows him from her nightmares! Filming is already underway though no release date has been announced.

Katie Griffin, the voice of Sailor Mars, to appear at Unplugged Expo in Toronto this October

Sailor Mars - Katie Griffin

Katie Griffin, the voice of Sailor Mars from the English dub of the Sailor Moon anime, will be a guest at Unplugged Expo in Toronto October 26th and the 27th.

Unplugged Expo has now confirmed that three actors from the Sailor Moon dub will be in attendance for their Sailor Moon 20th Anniversary celebration. Katie Griffin joins Stephanie Morgenstern, the voice of Sailor Venus, and Susan Roman, the voice of Sailor Jupiter. Perhaps more Sailor Moon voice actors will soon be announced to be joining them as well. This will be Katie Griffin’s third Toronto convention appearance in 2013. She was at Anime North in May and will be at Fan Expo August 22nd to the 25th.

Early bird registration is open from now until August 1st. It’s just $15 which is half of what you’d pay at the door!

Bandai’s S. H. Figuarts Sailor Mars figure prototype

Sailor Mars S. H. Figuarts figure from Bandai

We finally have a first look at the Sailor Mars prototype figure from Bandai’s S. H. Figuarts line! This figure is being unveiled at the Japan Expo in Paris which technically starts later today, July 4th. Like the other figures in this line it will be a very detailed very posable figure with many swappable parts. This is a prototype so the design could change but the Sailor Mercury full colour figure ended up being pretty much as shown. We’ll have to wait and see what kind of accessories Sailor Mars may come with. Any guesses? I would think we could see her Ofuda, the piece of paper on which her charm is inscribed, and maybe Phobos and Deimos, her pet crows.

Trailer for Keiko Kitagawa’s new movie Roommate

Keiko Kitagawa in Roommate

Here’s a trailer for a new movie Roommate, starring Keiko Kitagawa, Sailor Mars from the live action Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon series.

The movie will be released on November 9th in Japan. The trailer doesn’t really tell us much but the story it would seem has Keiko’s character, Harumi, getting into an accident and befriending a nurse, Reiko (Mars Reiko?), played by Kyoko Fukada. The two decide to be roommates and high jinx ensues!

Fan Expo to host a Sailor Moon cast reunion in Toronto this August

Sailor Moon Voice Actors' Q&A panel at Anime North 2013 featuring John Stocker, Linda Ballantyne, Katie Griffin and Susan Roman

At this year’s Fan Expo convention in Toronto Canada, August 22nd to the 25th, there will be a Sailor Moon 20th Anniversary Cast Reunion! This will include Toby Proctor, the voice of Tuxedo Mask, Linda Ballantyne, the voice of Sailor Moon, Susan Roman, the voice of Sailor Jupiter, Katie Griffin, the voice of Sailor Mars and John Stocker, voice director for the series.

Fan Expo is a huge convention which includes an Anime stream amongst many others. Unfortunately at least year’s convention the Sailor Moon guests in attendance were not involved in any panels, but with this reunion going on there will hopefully be more Sailor Moon related events for fans eager to meet their favourite voice actors.

Sailor Moon - Linda Ballantyne

Anime North 2013 is fast approaching. It will take place May 24th to the 26th in Toronto. As we’ve mentioned earlier there are four voice actors from the English dub of Sailor Moon in appearance, that being Linda Ballantyne, the voice of Sailor Moon from the later seasons, Katie Griffin, the voice of Sailor Mars, Susan Roman, the voice of Sailor Jupiter, and John Stocker who did many smaller roles but also worked as voice director for many later episodes and movies. The Anime North schedule is now online on their web site and we’ve combed through it to pick out all the relevant information related to Sailor Moon!

There are five panels featuring voice actors and staff from Sailor Moon.

Friday from 6:00 to 7:00 pm John Stocker will be part of the “Behind the Mic” panel which includes a few voice actors. This will take place in the Toronto Room.

Friday from 8:00 to 9:30 pm the panel “Ask an Anime Character” will include Linda Ballentine, Katie Griffin and Susan Roman as well as voice actor Trina Nishimura. This will also take place in the Toronto Room.

Saturday from 1:00 to 2:00 pm there are two panels taking place to compete for Sailor Moon fans’ time. John Stocker will join others in the “So Many Voices” panel in Plaza C while Linda Ballentine, Katie Griffin and Susan Roman will be doing the “Memories of the 80s” panel in Toronto Panels.

Saturday from 5:00 to 6:00 pm will be the “Sailormoon Voice Actors Q&A” in Toronto Panels. The guests are not mentioned by name in the schedule but I think we can take a guess at who might be in attendance.

Katie Griffin and Susan Roman to appear at Anime North May 24th to the 26th

Anime North has announced two new guests Katie Griffin, the voice of Sailor Mars, and Susan Roman, the voice of Sailor Jupiter. They will join Linda Ballantyne, the voice of Sailor Moon, and John Stocker, voice director for Sailor Moon, at this year’s convention which will be held in Toronto the weekend of May 24th to the 26th.

Susan Roman is a veteran voice actor with a ton of credits to her name. She provided the voice of Lita, Sailor Jupiter, for her entire time in the series making her the only actress to voice one of the main Sailor Scout for the entire length of the series.

Katie Griffin has also done a great deal of voice acting. We met up with her at Fan Expo last year. Check out that interview. She provided the voice of Raye, Sailor Mars, for all but 16 episodes of the series making the actress appearing in the most episodes of the show.

With all of these Sailor Moon actors at the same convention we will be in attendance and hope to see you there. Weekend passes are sold out but individual passes are still available for all days.

Sailor Mars - Art Nouveau - Spirit of Fire shirt by Eriphyle

Today only you can get this great looking Sailor Mars shirt for $10 from Shirt Punch. The shirt is on sale for 24 hours, only on November 27th, so pick it up while you can. The shirt includes the French words “Esprit du feu” which translate to “Spirit of the Fire” or “Spirit of Fire”. The flowers look suspiciously like casablanca lilies, Rei’s favourite flower, mentioned in a side story of the Sailor Moon manga named “Casablanca Memory”.

The art style may look familiar to you. This would be because this is the same artist that also did a similar shirt design of Sailor Moon. The shirt’s artist, Eriphyle, has done all kinds of great Sailor Moon designs. You can check out her web site and facebook page for more. I’m hoping we see a shirt of her Sailor Venus design real soon!

First look at Toon Makers’ Sailor Moon’s space ship and other cels with backgrounds

Toon Makers' Sailor Moon - Sailor Moon's Galleon

Every day we’re seeing more and more cels from the Toon Makers’ Sailor Moon pilot being sold on ebay. Today we get our first look at cels that come with hand painted backgrounds which give us a great look at what this show would have looked like. The Toon Makers’ Sailor Moon show, sometimes called Saban Moon or Fox Kids Sailor Moon, was a pilot for a Sailor Moon show that mixed live action footage and western animation. Luckily for fans in the west we got the Dic dub instead but these cels are a great close up look at what this show may have looked like if Sailor Moon history had been much different.

The main new thing we see in this set of cels is Sailor Moon’s space ship referred to in the script which we had an exclusive first look at, as the Galleon. This ship appears to be destroyed by Queen Beryl’s own ship the Dark Galleon in the clip of the show we’ve seen. Galleon is a term generally used to describe very large multi decked ocean faring ship from the 16th to 18th century. This auction of a cel of the Galleon comes with a background of space and stars. It, like the other auctions from this seller, are not “Buy it now” so we’ll have to wait a week to see who ends up buying this one. You of course should not bid so that I can win them all real cheap…
