Bandai’s new Sailor Moon S.H. Figuarts figure will go on sale this August

Sailor Moon - S. H. Figuarts figure

Sailor Moon Channel, the official Sailor Moon site, and Tamashii Nations have a new look at the Sailor Moon S.H. Figuarts figure from Bandai. This figure, made to commemorate Sailor Moon’s 20th Anniversary, is set to go on sale in August and comes with a small Luna figure. We last saw these figures at Bandai’s trade show last year. These new images show Sailor Moon’s moon stick which was not previously seen.

Sailor Moon S. H. Figuarts with Moon Stick

The figure has an MSRP of 4,410 Japanese Yen which is about $45 US, though North American fans can probably expect to pay a bit more of a premium to ship or buy an import of this toy. It will measure 14 centimetres, roughly 5.5″.

Original Sailor Moon anime to replay in Japan starting May 5th

Sailor Moon episode 1 - Usagi removing a bandage from Luna's head

Japanese satellite channel TV Asahi channel 1 will begin replaying the first season of the 1992 Sailor Moon anime starting on the 5th of May. This is not a free channel so the show will not be viewable by everyone. The TV Asahi web site mentions that the show will be airing from 5 to 6pm on Sundays, meaning that they will be playing two episode per week in this time slot. The site only mentions the original 46 episode, having run from March 7th 1992 to March 23rd 1993, so there is currently no indication of specific plans to follow this airing up with Sailor Moon R. Replaying this first season will take roughly six months at this rate.

Fans have been waiting for more information about the new 2013 Sailor Moon anime but such information has still not come. Is TV Asahi trying to capitalize on the impending hype for the new series? Unfortunately we can’t consider this move as an indication of much since Sailor Moon has been replayed in Japan a number of times since it’s original airing back in the day.

Sailor Moon as drawn by Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt artist TAGRO

TAGRO - Serenity and Guardians

TAGRO, a Japanese manga artist best known for drawing the Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt manga, has done some interesting Sailor Moon fan art. TAGRO does tons of art of various anime characters and Sailor Moon seems to be his latest interest. He’s drawn all five of the main Sailor Soldiers and Tuxedo Mask to date. The art style is certainly a change for Sailor Moon, making the characters look like something out of Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt characterized by their super deformed “chibi” look and lack of feet. The various high rez group shots make great desktop backgrounds for a wide screen display.

TAGRO - Tuxedo Mask

TAGRO posts his works at Japanese art sharting site pixiv. You can check out his profile for more of his works. A free registration is required to view all of his art. You can also follow @TAGRO on Twitter. His profile currently refers to himself as “Sailor TAGRO”.

Yuko Minaguchi, the voice of Sailor Saturn

Hello Kitty/Sailor Moon shirt available today at ShirtPunch

Hello Sailor Scouts - Sailor Moon/Hello Kitty t-shirt at ShirtPunch

This neat looking “Hello Sailor Scouts” t-shirt, crossing the worlds of Sailor Moon and Hello Kitty, is available at ShirtPunch today, April 9th, from midnight to midnight EST. Pick it up in the next 24 hours for $10 because after that it’s gone forever!

The characters on this shirt, obvious parodies of Sailor Moon and Sailor Chibi Moon, are named Sailor Meow and Sailor Mini Meow! Sailor Meow is shown with the Spiral Heart Moon Rod, which makes sense given this is the item Sailor Moon has when Sailor Chibi Moon first appears. To be a bit nitpicky Sailor Meow’s broach and tiara are consistent with earlier designs as neither of these items coexisted with the Spiral Heart Moon Rod or the presence of Sailor Chibi Moon. This version of Sailor Moon would have had a heart shaped broach and a crescent moon on her tiara. Sailor Mini Meow’s Pink Moon Stick is the one that Sailor Chibi Moon had in her Sailor Moon S form, prior to her transformation into Super Sailor Chibi Moon, so that is consistent as well.

The shirt is designed by Jelly Soup Studios. You can check out her web site Jelly’s Sketchbook for more of her art.

Momoiro Clover Z reenact the Sailor Moon S opening

Momoiro Clover Z - Sailor Moon S intro - Sailor Team

Unfortunately today’s appearance of Momoiro Clover Z on Japanese TV show Bakusho Show Battle did not have them performing the theme song to the new Sailor Moon 2013 anime as we previously reported. This was not an April fool’s joke but rather a misunderstood translation of the Japanese announcement. Apologies if we got your hopes up.

What we did get is a shot for shot remake of the opening of the Sailor Moon S season of the anime in which Momoiro Clover Z sing Moonlight Densetsu. You can watch the full clip below, assuming this clip does not get pulled as others have. You can compare their version to the actual Sailor Moon S opening being shown on the lower right corner of the screen.

Bakusho Show Battle is a Japanese TV show in which bands square off against each other doing a parody of a popular intro. You can find out more about this episode from Yahoo! Japan’s episode guide.

Momoiro Clover Z to reveal the new Sailor Moon theme song April 4th

Momoiro Clover Z dressed as Sailor Moon characters

Today is April Fools’ Day which means nothing on the Internet can be trusted. With that in mind I am sharing with you some information from some sites in Japan dated March 25th, but that were brought to my attention on April 1st Japanese time.

April 4th Update: Momoiro Clover Z did not perform the new theme song on April 4th but instead did a reenactment of the Sailor Moon S intro.

The news as reported by Momoiro Clover Z blog Momoclomatome and natalie.mu states that this coming Thursday, April 4th 2013, Momoiro Clover Z will be performing the theme song for the new 2013 Sailor Moon anime.

Sailor Moon 20th Anniversary Live Show - Momoiro Clover Z

We were previously informed last summer during the 20th Anniversary event that the all girl colour coordinated J-Pop group Momoiro Clover Z would in fact be the group to perform the theme song for the new Sailor Moon anime set to begin airing this summer. The group then went on to perform a song Otome Sensou. Some fans took this performance as an indication that this would be the theme song but there has been no strong evidence to suggest this is the case. The band then performed the classic Sailor Moon anime theme song Moonlight Densetsu which also seems unlikely to be the theme song for the new anime.

Fans have been looking forward to any new information about this show for months. Until now Fumio Osano’s occasional twitter updates are all we’ve had to go on and those serve to tell us little more than that the show is still coming but that he can’t tell us anything about it. Let’s hope this news is reliable and that this will be the first in a series of updates about this new anime that we’ve all been waiting for.

Thanks to Twitter user @Sailormoon_UK for bringing this news to the attention of the Sailor Moon fandom.
