Although there has still been no official announcement confirming this there is growing evidence that there could be a delay in the release of the 2013 Sailor Moon anime which was originally meant to be released this summer. The main sources for this are a tweet from Fumio Osano, the Sailor Moon manga’s editor, word from Toru Furuya, the voice of Tuxedo Mask, and word from a European distributor for Sailor Moon. Once again there is currently no official confirmation of a delay, but as there is growing evidence that this could be happening we are presenting you with all of the evidence that exists at this time and what those sources are so that you can make your own informed opinion as to what this means.

Momoiro Clover Z to reveal the new Sailor Moon theme song April 4th
Today is April Fools’ Day which means nothing on the Internet can be trusted. With that in mind I am sharing with you some information from some sites in Japan dated March 25th, but that were brought to my attention on April 1st Japanese time.
April 4th Update: Momoiro Clover Z did not perform the new theme song on April 4th but instead did a reenactment of the Sailor Moon S intro.
The news as reported by Momoiro Clover Z blog Momoclomatome and natalie.mu states that this coming Thursday, April 4th 2013, Momoiro Clover Z will be performing the theme song for the new 2013 Sailor Moon anime.
We were previously informed last summer during the 20th Anniversary event that the all girl colour coordinated J-Pop group Momoiro Clover Z would in fact be the group to perform the theme song for the new Sailor Moon anime set to begin airing this summer. The group then went on to perform a song Otome Sensou. Some fans took this performance as an indication that this would be the theme song but there has been no strong evidence to suggest this is the case. The band then performed the classic Sailor Moon anime theme song Moonlight Densetsu which also seems unlikely to be the theme song for the new anime.
Fans have been looking forward to any new information about this show for months. Until now Fumio Osano’s occasional twitter updates are all we’ve had to go on and those serve to tell us little more than that the show is still coming but that he can’t tell us anything about it. Let’s hope this news is reliable and that this will be the first in a series of updates about this new anime that we’ve all been waiting for.
Thanks to Twitter user @Sailormoon_UK for bringing this news to the attention of the Sailor Moon fandom.
Toonami is looking into airing the new Sailor Moon anime

At the Toonami panel at the MomoCon anime convention in Atlanta this past weekend a fan asked if they had plans to play the new Sailor Moon anime that will begin airing in Japan this summer. Toonami’s response was only that they were considering it.
Nothing is definitive at this point but Toonami would certainly be a fitting home for the new 2013 Sailor Moon anime as many American fans were first exposed to the original Sailor Moon anime on Cartoon Network’s Toonami block when they started airing the show in June of 1998. The Toonami block of programming, which centres around more action oriented animation included a lot of Anime, returned to Cartoon Network last May after a long hiatus.

Fumio Osano states that US viewers will be able to watch the new 2013 Sailor Moon Anime online

Fumio Osana, @osabu8 on twitter, has responded to a fan’s question about how US viewers will be able to watch the new Sailor Moon 2013 anime, asking if it would be available online. His reply was:
@DanielleSwaw yes,you will watch on internet.
Short and sweet. Based on this statement it would seem that international distribution of the show, at least at first, is planned to be done online. How exactly this will be done isn’t specified but it seems reasonable that we will see it on some kind of streaming site. Some sites like Crunchy Roll and Funimation already do this.

New 2013 Sailor Moon anime will be in Japanese with many language subtitles… maybe

The lack of any significant news about the new Sailor Moon anime set to start airing this summer has been pretty frustrating. Naoko Takeuchi’s editor Fumio Osano (@osabu8) has been very active on twitter and answers many questions either by saying he doesn’t know the answer yet or he’s not allowed to give one. While details aren’t really there it seems obvious from all that he says that the new anime is still in the works, though it seems like many of the specifics aren’t quite figured out.
Recently a user SnowWolf2012 asked him if the simultaneous worldwide release mentioned at the 20th anniversary event was going to be in Japanese or in many languages. The answer was simply:
Not very definitive, but it seems that we might be seeing a Japanese release with subtitles in other languages, presumably including English, for the original release. A dub could certainly follow at a later time.
Did Batman read Sailor Moon?

Here’s an old Sailor Moon sighting which has made a resurgence lately which insinuates that Bruce Wayne, Batman’s alter ego, reads the Sailor Moon manga, or has watched the anime.
In a 1999 issue of “Justice League of America” the character of Martian Manhunter, a shapeshifter, disguises himself as a Japanese woman and uses the name Rei Hino. When Bruce Wayne is introduced to her (him) he immediately realizes who he is because of the connection between the name and Mars. Rei Hino is the Japanese name of Sailor Mars, so it’s kind of sloppy for J’onn J’onzz to use it! For Bruce to see through this ploy though, he would have to be familiar with some specifics of the Sailor Moon manga or anime series, which means that Batman either read the Sailor Moon manga or watched the Sailor Moon anime! Momoiro Clover Z’s new song about Furby

Momoiro Clover Z, the band that will be performing the theme song for the new 2013 Sailor Moon anime, are currently promoting the new line of Furby toys! That’s right, Furby’s back! The new Furby toys are actually pretty amazing. I picked one up last week and they can do all kinds of awesome things and now have an iOS app that can interact with them to feed them, translate and stuff.
So basically the band Momoiro Clover Z has released a commercial and music video all about Furby in which they are dressed up like Furbies and they … well sing and dance! These girls are no strangers to elaborate colourful costumes, and this excuse seems as good as any to get colour coordinated and have some fun.
Here’s their latest music video “Wee-Tee-Wee-Tee” which according to my Furbish dictionary means “Sing Sing”. Is this the first song title to be in Furbish? I certainly hope so!
How do you like the song?
What’s going on with this creepy Sailor Moon statue?

This creepy picture of a “topless” Sailor Moon statue has popped up online. This statue, found in a mall in Jakarta, Indonesia, was posted to Danny Choo’s web site yesterday. It was then shared by such sites as Kotaku, which is a web site which used to post news about video games. Danny Choo jokingly mentioned that this was the new uniform for the new series which has dispensed with the top.
But what’s really going on? It doesn’t take much examination to see that this is a severely faded statue. Indeed there are considerable amounts of white paint which have faded away. Sailor Moon appears topless only because the white of her top is gone leaving only the flesh colour underneath it. Look at the shoulders which still have those ridged shoulder parts that Sailor Moon’s sailor fuku normally has. This is supported by the fact that the gloves and whites of her eyes also only appear as a flesh colour rather than the white colour they should be.
This doctored image shows what the statue may have looked like with the original white paint:

Keep in mind that only the colour and brightness of certain areas were modified to create this effect. This is indeed not a topless statue at all, just one that’s probably close to 20 years old and in need of a fresh coat of paint.
John Stocker interview at Fan Expo 2012

Here’s an interview with legendary voice actor and voice director John Stocker from Fan Expo in Toronto this past weekend.
John is known for many roles, perhaps most famously as Beastly from Care Bears. This interview focuses on his involvement in Sailor Moon, for which he provided many voices as well as voice directing for two seasons and three movies. John also talks about some of his more iconic roles, working in the industry throughout the years and gives some insight into being on either side of the microphone.
For more about John Stocker check out his web site johnstocker.ca.
Keep an eye out on this site. We’ll have our Fan Expo interview with Katie Griffin, the voice of Sailor Mars, up in a few days.
Katie Griffin, Susan Roman and Vince Corazza panel at Anime Revolution

This past weekend at Anime Revolution in Vancouver there were six Sailor Moon voice actors in attendance. A fan recorded this panel which featured Katie Griffin, the voice of Sailor Mars, Susan Roman, the voice of Sailor Jupiter and Vincent Corazza, the voice of Tuxedo Mask.
The sound isn’t excellent because of interference from another panel next door but regardless the content of the panel is something fans will find quite interesting.
