Sailor Uranus and Neptune Figuarts Zero figures are coming in 2017

Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune Figuarts ZERO figures

Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune will be the next two Figuarts ZERO figures released by Bandai. These figures, which are high quality statues, are part of the Sailor Moon Crystal Figuarts ZERO series, which have a slightly different look than statues based on the original anime. The new figures were announced on the official Sailor Moon site and the Tamashii Nations site. Sailor Uranus will be the first to be released, coming in May 2017 for a price of 5000 yen, about $42 US. The Sailor Neptune figure was also shown in an image on a shared pedestal, though we have no details about this figure except that it will be released some time in 2017.

Does a Chibiusa and Pegasus Figuarts Zero statue confirm that more episodes of Sailor Moon Crystal are coming?

Pegasus and Chibiusa Figuarts Zero statue

The International Tokyo Toy Show is on now, running from June 9th to the 12th. One thing which has been revealed is this great looking Figuarts Zero statue featuring Chibiusa and Pegasus from the Dream arc of the Sailor Moon manga. This on its own is not odd as we’ve gotten a lot of figures from throughout the Sailor Moon series in the past couple of years, not all of them tied to stories being told in Sailor Moon Crystal. Something important to note though, as noticed by the Moon Sisters Facebook page, is that the sign for this statue refers to it as a Sailor Moon Crystal figure. We are currently seeing the Infinity arc of Sailor Moon Crystal and we’ve had no official confirmation of episodes covering the next story arc, the Dream story arc, which covers the manga chapters which were adapted as Sailor Moon SuperS in the original Sailor Moon anime.

This isn’t just branding. The Figuarts Zero statues have had two distinct lines of figures. The Sailor Moon figures are in a style closer to that of the original anime and the Sailor Moon Crystal figures have designs that colours that match those used in Sailor Moon Crystal. It’s hard for me to tell what style this figure is in. The main indicators of a Sailor Moon Crystal specific Figuarts Zero statue are the colours, such as Sailor Moon being a bit more pink in her reds, and some proportions. Without two Chibiusas to compare this figure to there isn’t much to go on. Her dress does not use standard colours. Her legs are hidden so we can’t see their shape. The face does look a bit more like the rounder Sailor Moon Crystal Figuarts Zero statue than the normal Sailor Moon statue. Have a look at both below to see the difference.

Is this conclusive? Absolutely not. Many things could mean this does not actually indicate that the Dream arc of the manga will be adapted in Sailor Moon Crystal. Perhaps someone just made the sign incorrectly. Note that it says Chibi-Usa and Helios but this is clearly Helios in his Pegasus form. We don’t call something an Usagi figure if she’s in her Sailor Moon form. Perhaps the toy is done in a Sailor Moon Crystal style but does not reflect any plans to actually adapt these particular episodes. Figures take a long time to sculpt and approve. Perhaps when this figure was originally conceived and approved there was no indication of what the future of Sailor Moon Crystal might bring. Perhaps when the figure was planned there was an expectation that the Dream arc would be adapted but since then any number of complications has put a halt to development of those episodes. Perhaps there’s some other scenario I’m not even thinking of that is causing a disconnect between what this figure represents and what we will see in the show. There are a lot of unknowns so we should always wait for official confirmation before jumping to conclusions. That said, we may very well be getting our very first look at Pegasus from Sailor Moon Crystal!

The figure is due out in January and will sell for 6912 yen, about $65 US.

Tuxedo Mask and Sailor Chibi Moon S. H. Figuarts, Sailor Moon Crystal Figuarts Zero and more figures revealed at Tamashi Nations 2014

Sailor Chibi Moon S. H. Figuarts

A ton of new Sailor Moon figures were revealed at this past weekend’s Tamashii Nations 2014 event in Tokyo. We have Sailor Chibi Moon and Tuxedo Mask S. H. Figuarts figures, a new line of Figuarts Zero figures in a Sailor Moon Crystal style and super deformed Tamashii Buddies for the main five Sailor Guardians.

Original anime colour Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask S. H. Figuarts figures

We already knew we were expecting to see a Tuxedo Mask S. H. Figuarts figure so that was no real surprise, but Sailor Chibi Moon was news! Also on display is the original anime colours Sailor Moon. The S. H. Figuarts Sailor Moon figure had a slightly different colour palette, including a more pink colour than her original red, but this one is more what fans of the 1992 Sailor Moon anime are used to. S. H. Figuarts figures are high quality highly posable figures. These new S. H. Figuarts figures will likely cost about the same as the other ones that have been released, about $40 to $50 US. What kind of accessories will be included with these figures? We can only speculate, so here we go. The Tuxedo Mask shown has neither a cape or a rose, which would be obvious additions. Sailor Chibi Moon may include her Pink Moon Stick and Luna P. Sailor Pluto remains the only Sailor Guardian not to get an S. H. Figuarts figure as we’re now moving on to other characters. Should we expect to get Chibi Chibi, Ikuko Mama, Shingo and Red Buttler S. H. Figuarts before we see her?

The other big revelation was the new line of Sailor Moon Crystal Figuarts Zero figures. The original Sailor Moon Figuarts Zero line is from Sailor Moon R but these ones are from the new Sailor Moon anime, Sailor Moon Crystal, and have a whole other level of detail to them. I wasn’t terribly impressed with what the Sailor Moon R Figuarts Zero figures had to offer at their price point, but I find these new ones to be quite nice. The Figuarts Zero line are not posable. They are stationary small statuettes. If pricing is similar to the other Sailor Moon Figuarts Zero figures they should cost somewhere in the range of $80 to $90 US.

Also revealed were more Tamashii Buddies, small non posable super deformed figures. These tiny figures are just 9 cm tall, about 3.5″. Announced to date are Sailor Moon, Mercury, Mars, Jupiter and Venus. Though no prices are given these slightly more affordable figures tend to sell for about $15 US.

Sailor Mars Figuarts ZERO Sailor Jupiter Figuarts ZERO

The figures shown are all prototypes so they have no colour, except for a bit of colour in the eyes of the S. H. Figuarts figures. The S. H. Figuarts line are small very posable figures with many swappable parts such as extra faces and hands. The Figuarts ZERO line are of larger more expensive statues that feature a single pose for that character.

Sailor Saturn S. H. Figuarts

Also on display were all of the previous Figuarts items including a colour version of S. H. Figuarts Sailor Saturn which was displayed a while ago on the official site. Sailor Saturn is now available for pre-order in Japan from sites like JList, CD Japan and YesAsia for an August release.

Sailor Mercury Figuarts ZERO Prototype revealed

Sailor Mercury Figuarts Zero Prototype

Bandai and Volks will be releasing a Sailor Mercury Figuarts ZERO figure and have unveiled a prototype. This prototype isn’t painted but we can get a basic idea of what the figure will look like when it’s eventually released. No specifics have been given but based on what we already know about the Sailor Moon Figuarts ZERO figure which is set to be released in March it is a 1/8 scale figure, likely measuring roughly 22cm or 8.5″ in height and costing about 8,800 yen, some $91 US dollars. This figure will not be posable. With Mercury now revealed it stands to reason that we will be getting Sailor Mars, Jupiter and Venus Figuarts ZERO figures in time as well.

New details about Bandai’s Figuarts ZERO Sailor Moon figure

Sailor Moon Figuarts ZERO figure in colour

The Tamashi Nations Sailor Moon site has been updated with colour images of their upcoming Figuarts ZERO Sailor Moon figure which will be available in March from Bandai and Volks. We had previously only seen a grey prototype of this toy. The image below shows it next to the S. H. Figuarts figure to demonstrate scale, which is useful only to people who actually have the S. H. Figuarts figure which is itself a fairly small toy. It will be 22 cm tall, roughly 8.5″. It is priced at 8,800 yen which is about $91 US so get started on that loan application now. You can preorder this toy from JList for a mere $110.

This figure is not posable and is modelled after Sailor Moon from the Sailor Moon R arc of the anime, as Sailor Moon is seen with her Cutie Moon Rod and Crystal Star Brooch.

Here’s yet another Sailor Moon figure that was spotted at Wonder Festival 2013 Summer held this weekend in Chiba, Japan! This is from Bandai and Volks’s Figuarts ZERO line of figures. These are not posable like the S. H. Figuarts line but rather single piece immoveable figures. These are very detailed high quality figures. Here we see Sailor Moon with her Cutie Moon Rod, her weapon from the Sailor Moon R season of the anime.

As is often the case we’re only seeing a prototype at first. If all goes well we’ll be seeing the completed version in colour soon.
