Did Robbie Daymond, the voice of Tuxedo Mask, secretly confirm that he’s dubbing Sailor Moon Cosmos with a photo of him wearing a Sailor Moon Star Locket pin?

Robbie Daymond, the voice of Tuxedo Mask, wearing a Star Locket pin

Today, December 20th, the Sailor Moon Cosmos films were released on DVD and Blu-ray in Japan. International fans are up in arms begging for any news about a release outside of Japan, but we may have gotten a hint that a dub is coming soon! Robbie Daymond, who voiced Tuxedo Mask in Sailor Moon Crystal and the Sailor Moon Eternal films, shared a photo of him recording “an unexpected & awesome two sessions to finish out 2023″. He does not mention what these are and if it’s indeed a recording of Sailor Moon Cosmos he surely signed an NDA (non disclosure agreement) so I would not suggest for a minute that he’s done anything to violate this. Robbie Daymond is wearing an interesting looking pin in this photo. That is a pin of The Orgel or Star Locket from Sailor Moon. This is the locket that Princess Serenity gives to Tuxedo Mask in Act 6 of the Sailor Moon manga and Sailor Moon Crystal. It’s also featured in the original Sailor Moon anime.

Is this an obvious sign? An unquestionable confirmation that Robbie Daymond is recording the dub for Sailor Moon Cosmos? Well I can’t say for sure but if I wanted to give a subtle clue about recording a show that didn’t violate and NDA this is a nice way to do it. The secrecy behind the recording might explains why he refers to it as “unexpected”. If I wanted to troll people by giving them false hope while I recorded a fry commercial this would be a fantastic way to do it so take it with a grain of salt. Remember that a few years ago Michael Yurchak, the voice of Hawk’s Eye, posted a photo of Instagram which had a barely visible image of the Amazoness Quartet on a monitor which was our first indication that a dub of Sailor Moon Eternal was being recorded for Netflix. The film premiered on Netflix six months after that leak. Let’s hope we don’t wait that long!

Sailor Moon's Star Locket

We are long overdue for news about a release of Sailor Moon Cosmos outside of Japan. Regardless of how it gets released a dub is likely and a dub using the same cast as we’ve had for the first four story arcs is certainly the way to go. The timing for this makes sense and I’m optimistic that this could be a good sign, but we should always wait for official news which I will of course share to this site when I get it.

I’m looking forward to getting my Japanese Sailor Moon Cosmos Blu-ray in a few days and I hope that a fan sub shows up some time soon as well. I will always encourage supporting the official releases when possible. Let’s hope we get news of a North American dub and release soon! If that’s indeed what this is I wonder what took Robbie Daymond two session to do. Tuxedo Mask spends most of these movies as a gem. Perhaps he just meant it was two sessions for the two films. I think Taiki’s forehead has more lines than him.

Update 2023-12-23: It looks like this pin is from The Lantern Girl’s etsy shop. Unfortunately this particular pin is currently out of stock.

A Pokémon/Sailor Moon Crossover? Is the Golden Crystal or Mamoru’s Star Seed in the Pokémon Moon logo?

Pokémon Sailor Moon Crossover?

Could it be that the upcoming Pokémon games Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon include a Sailor Moon Crossover? Zack Compton, who created this image and left it on our Facebook page, seems to think so. The Japanese Pocket Monsters Moon logo includes a small gold coloured gem which looks suspiciously like a True Star Seed. The picture above shows Galaxia with (spoiler!) Tuxedo Mask’s Star Seed which happens to closely resemble the Golden Crystal from Sailor Moon SuperS and the Dream arc of the manga. Though the similarity is a bit of a stretch the game also has Moon in the title so why not? Check out the games official Japanese logo below. The “Confirmed” comment is a reference to a trend in the Pokémon fandom to confirm remakes throughout the years.

Here is Sailor Chibi Moon with the Golden Crystal, quite similar to the gem from the image and of course nearly identical to Tuxedo Mask’s Star Seed. There are minor differences with Star Seeds being partially transparent with a shiny star inside and the Golden Crystal being a fairly uniform colour.

The Pokémon/Sailor Moon crossovers don’t end there! As I’ve previously mentioned Makoto’s father, as seen in Act 17, looks just like Brock from Pokémon! This may largely be due to the fact that he’s closing his eyes in the photo. Who does that? Maybe Makoto’s father is French Stewart.

Sailor Moon SuperS episodes 162 and 163 are now available on Hulu

Sailor Moon SuperS episode 163 - Nehelenia

The two latest episodes of Sailor Moon SuperS have been added to Hulu and Neon Alley this morning. This week with episodes 162 and 163 we have some very story rich episodes that delve into the origins of Queen Nehelenia, the Dead Moon Circus, Elysion, Helios and all that stuff as the Golden Mirror is revealed and the Sailor Guardians are captured.

Sailor Moon SuperS episode 162 - Elysion being destroyed

Episode 162, The Source of Darkness: Dead Moon Circus, gives us some backstory we’ve been waiting for. Pegasus does a bit of exposition and explains that the Dead Moon Circus and Nehelenia destroyed Elysion, his home, looking for the Golden Crystal which is actually his horn. The Golden Crystal is this all powerful thing that can destroy planets and cause all sorts of problems if someone evil gets it. Sound familiar? There are vines starting to grow around the city and as we’ve seen, Mamoru is dying. The girls fight their way past a bunch of Lemures to get into the tent. Finally the Golden Mirror, and therefore the person who’s dream Pegasus was hiding in, is revealed to be Chibiusa! We pretty much knew this and Fish Eye told us straight up in case there was any confusion. Sailor Chibi Moon gets her Golden Mirror removed and tries to put it back in with no success. To be continued.

Sailor Moon SuperS episode 163 - Nehelenia on the Dead Moon

Episode 163, Labyrinth of Mirrors: Chibi Moon Captured, gives us even more backstory than the last episode! We get the scoop on Queen Nehelenia. Back in the day she observed the White Moon from… another Moon? Wait what? Now we know that there is just one Moon around the Earth so what exactly is going on here? Are we to believe that there used to be a second Moon or is it just that this second Moon is somehow not visible to us because it’s like… Dark? It’s best not to try to tease out the astronomical implications of this. A large Moon sized object rotating around the Earth would be very detectable not only because of its gravitational effects on objects in our system but also because of its ability to mask other objects, such as stars. The Dead Moon is sort of like the Moon when it is eclipsing the Sun, but showing it as a second celestial body is a bit odd. Anyway Nehelenia is into Helios and covets his Goidlen Crystal, but she’s evil so that doesn’t work out. Elysion is shown to have architecture reminiscent of ancient Greece, not unlike that seen in Silver Millennium, though the timeline is not specifically stated. Nehelenia has Chibiusa captured and tied up so the Amazoness Quartet, who can’t manage to obey anyone for long, bust her out by replacing her with a rag doll. They try to put a bridle on Pegasus to tame him as a pet, but this causes him to start a massive fire and all sorts of bad things happen. Meanwhile the Sailor Guardians are seduced with mirror like copies of themselves that are really Ziriconia. How fitting since she’s sort of like a mirror version of Nehelenia. The Amazoness Quartet get busted too and are themselves stuck in mirrors. Looks like everyone is trapped and all hope is lost!
