The English version of Sailor Moon Crystal Act 17, Secret – Sailor Jupiter, is now available on Hulu

The latest English dubbed episode of Sailor Moon Crystal is now available on Hulu and Neon Alley. Act 17, Secret – Sailor Jupiter, is all about Makoto and her secrets. It focuses on her relationship with Ittou Asanuma, a boy who is himself infatuated with Mamoru. The villain this week is Petz of the Specter Sisters.

We get a bit of backstory about Makoto’s parents who died in a plane crash. They are seen in a photo and Makoto’s mother looks just like Brock from Pokémon. The timeline doesn’t really make sense if this were a real thing, plus there are no Pokémon in the world of Sailor Moon, but it’s fun to think about these things!

Next week is Act 18 – Invasion – Sailor Venus. In this episode we will see the Shitennou once more!

The next English dubbed episode of Sailor Moon Crystal will be available on Hulu and Neon Alley this Friday night at 9pm Eastern Time, 8pm Central Time and 6pm Pacific Time! If you’re from Newfoundland you’ll just have to do the math as usual. Act 17, Secret – Sailor Jupiter, is all about Makoto. She befriends Ittou Asanuma, who would much rather get a kiss from Mamoru!

This episode features some back story on Makoto’s past in which we learn that her father is Brock from Pokémon! Funny her mother look nothing like either Officer Jenny or Nurse Joy. Johnny Yong Bosch, who voices Artemis in this English version of Sailor Moon Crystal, also provides the voice of Brock in Pokémon Origins! This means that if for whatever reason future episodes of Sailor Moon Crystal deviate widely from the manga and include a spoken scene from Makoto’s father, he can not only look like but also sound like Brock in the English version! Here’s a picture of Brock I drew decades ago when I was trying to make a Pokémon site. Apologies for all of the broken links. It was 1999.

The English version of Sailor Moon Crystal Act 16, Abduction – Sailor Mercury, is now available on Hulu

The latest English dubbed episode of Sailor Moon Crystal is now available on Hulu and Neon Alley. Act 16, Abduction – Sailor Mercury, is all about chess. Ami faces off against Berthier of the Spectre Sisters, who’s not really dressed appropriately for a chess tournament, in this wonderfully animated episode. Amongst other things we see a Sailor Moon Crystal exclusive look at young Ami.

Fans of the original Sailor Moon anime will note many similarities to Sailor Moon R episode 71, For Friendship: Ami vs. Berthier, which was itself based on Act 16 of the Sailor Moon manga. There are however some resemblances to the original anime that aren’t from the manga, such as Usagi’s inappropriate cheering during the tournament. Also of note is that this is a swimsuit episode! Usagi, Naru and Ami are all seen in swimsuits, which seems to be a really big deal for some people. Though not a ton of detail is seen Naru’s swimsuit is based on the one she wears in the first season of the original Sailor Moon anime.

Watch English dubbed version of Sailor Moon Crystal Act 16, Abduction – Sailor Mercury, Friday February 26th at 9pm EST

The next English dubbed episode of Sailor moon Crystal will be available on Hulu and Neon Alley this Friday. Act 16, Abduction – Sailor Mercury, has Ami facing off against Berthier of the Ayakashi Sisters or the Spectre Sisters as we’re referring to them in the dub. The conflict this week is over a game of chess! There are some interesting references to the original anime this week. On its surface this episode closely resembles Sailor Moon R episode 71, For Friendship: Ami vs. Berthier. Another similarity is Naru’s swimsuit which looks a lot like the one seen in the first season of the original Sailor Moon anime.

This episode includes young Ami, who is seen in one scene interacting with her dead beat father. He’s an artist who likes chess and doesn’t seem to care much about his daughter. Ami gets her love of chess from him but she wants to be a doctor like her mother, so it sounds like she chose the right role model when it counts!

The first episode of the Infinity Arc of Sailor Moon Crystal will be previewed at a March 6th event

An image was posted on the SailorMoonWorld.it Facebook Page which announced a special March 6th event which would screen the first new episode of Sailor Moon Crystal, likely to be named Act 27, Infinity 1 – Premonition, if the naming convention used for the first 26 episodes continues. This was confirmed on the Evil Line web site and Sailor Moon Official Site. This does not mean that the first episode will be available to fans on March 6th. We have only heard that the series will be released in “April” with no more specifics. This event, which takes place in Japan, will have very limited space, so I don’t expect many readers will be lucky enough to attend.

The event will take place on March 6th and include two screenings, one at 5pm and the other at 7pm, both in Japan Standard Time. This corresponds to 3am and 5am Eastern Time, if anyone cares to know the exact time something is happening on the other side of the planet they aren’t able to take part in. The event is meant to coincide with Sailor Neptune’s birthday, as Sailor Uranus, Neptune and Saturn will be seen in the upcoming episodes.

If you would like to try your luck at attending, and are in the area, you can fill out the form on the Evil Line site for information on how to attend. I put my name, age and e-mail address in the form but did not receive an immediate response. If I get anything worthwhile I will share it on the site.

The English dubbed version of the Black Moon story arc of Sailor Moon Crystal begins Friday Febuary 19th at 9pm

The Black Moon Clan will be joining the English version of Sailor Moon Crystal this Friday as, Act 15, Infiltration – Sailor Mars, is released on Hulu and Neon Alley. We’ll see a lot more of Chibiusa, who we saw briefly at the end of last week’s episode, as well as the Black Moon Clan which includes Rubeus, Demande, Esmeraude and the Ayakashi sisters.

This episode focuses more heavily on Koan and Sailor Mars. We’ll go through this formula for the next handful of episodes the as Ayakashi Sisters face off against Sailor Guardians. One scene features a guy who looks a lot like Heero Yuy from Gundam Wing. What do you think?

The English version of Sailor Moon Crystal Act 14, Conclusion and Commencement – Petite Étrangère, is now available on Hulu

You can now watch the entire Dark Kingdom story arc in English on Hulu or Neon Alley. This week we got Act 14, Conclusion and Commencement – Petite Étrangère, which wraps up the Dark Kingdom story arc for good and starts us off with the new Black Moon story arc with the appearance of the pink haired Chibiusa. This new faithful dub will not be calling her Rini like some fans may be used to! Chibiusa’s voice is provided by Sandy Fox, who also voiced her in Viz’s new English dub of the original Sailor Moon anime.

A lot of this episode takes place on the Moon where we get a look at human Luna. Anime fans will remember human Luna from the Sailor Moon S movie, though she appears in her human form more frequently in the manga. This appearance however is a Sailor Moon Crystal original change from the source material, as we see her earlier than we otherwise should. We see the the image of one of this story arc’s new villains in the fire. I previously had mentioned that this was Rubeus, because he is who we see in the manga, though some fans have mentioned that his hair looks more like Demande’s than Rubeus’s, which is slicked upwards out of the eyes. What do you think? It doesn’t really change the story but so much to say this is one of the Black Moon Clan’s jerks!

Next week is Act 15, Infiltration – Sailor Mars. With the Dark Kingdom out of the way we’ll meet a lot of the Black Moon Clan and find out a bit of what’s up with this weird new girl who fell from the sky.

How long is that title? Oh boy. Also I’m fixing the spelling mistake in “Étrangère” in my posts. I expected Viz to fix the spelling errors the Japanese had made but I guess they’re not French either. Consistency would be nice but the title screen title is different than the Hulu episode title, both of which are wrong.

The Infinity arc of Sailor Moon Crystal will begin this April

An announcement has been posted to the official Sailor Moon site about an upcoming convention appearance at AnimeJapan 2016. In this article it is mentioned in passing, as if it was something we already knew, that the new episodes of Sailor Moon Crystal will be coming this April! These new episodes will cover the Infinity arc of the manga which introduces us to Sailor Uranus, Neptune and Saturn as well as the Death Busters. We don’t have any specifics about the time except that it will be some time in April.

Details will be revealed at the AnimeJapan 2016 convention on March 26th in Tokyo. Guests in attendance will include Kotono Mitsuishi, the voice of Sailor Moon, Junko Minagawa, the voice of Sailor Uranus, Sayaka Ohara, the voice of Sailor Neptune, and Yukiyo Fujii, the voice of Sailor Saturn. Attendees present at this panel will receive a Sailor Moon Crystal postcard. Hopefully this event will give some specifics about a premier date and streaming options for international viewers outside of Japan. It is safe to say that one way or another, an official or unofficial fansubbed version will be available within a few days of any new episode’s release, but it would be much more convenient, morally and otherwise, to have the show streamed along with the original broadcast on Japanese TV.

It’s the end of one era and the beginning of a new one in this week’s English dubbed episode of Sailor Moon Crystal. With Act 14, Conclusion and Commencement – Petite Etrangère, we will wrap up the Dark Kingdom story arc and start the Black Moon story arc with the arrival of a small stranger! The episode will be available on Hulu and Neon Alley this Friday starting at 9pm Eastern Time.

Usagi will need to make a hard decision. Stay on Earth with the 7 billion or so people living there, including all of her friends, or be Queen of the dead and desolate Kingdom on the Moon?! It won’t be easy! This episode will also feature a Sailor Moon Crystal exclusive look at the human version of Luna!

The English version of Sailor Moon Crystal Act 13, Final Battle – Reincarnation, is now available on Hulu

The latest episode of Sailor Moon Crystal is now available to view in English on Hulu and Neon Alley. Act 13, Final Battle – Reincarnation, is the final full episode of the Dark Kingdom story arc. Everyone is putting their life on the line this week to defeat the evil Queen Metalia!

This is the version of the episode with modified animation, originally used for the Japanese DVD and Blu-Ray release. Amongst the changes is Queen Serenity’s dress who in the streaming version, shown above, shows a dress that looks like Princess Serenity’s. This was changed to reflect a style of dress that was similar to what Queen Serenity wears as an adult. I didn’t like this change at all. I thought it was nice to see Queen Serenity in a different light, dressing like her daughter later would, perhaps when she was still Princess herself. Oh well. At least we still have kitten Luna!

Next week is Act 14, Conclusion and Commencement – Petite Etrangère, which will sort of span both story arcs. We will conclude the Dark Kingdom story arc and then end with a setup for the Dark Moon Clan arc with the arrival of the “small stranger” Chibiusa.

Note: I will be traveling all week so this post was written last week and scheduled to go online after the episode airs. Should the episode not go online for whatever reason, I apologize for the confusing and misleading post!
