Jennifer Gould, the voice of Sailor Saturn, to appear at Unplugged Expo 4 from July 31st to August 2nd in Toronto

Unplugged Expo continues in their tradition of having great Sailor Moon voice actors as guests at their convention. For Unplugged Expo 4 in downtown Toronto the weekend of July 31st to August 2nd they will have voice actors from the original and new Sailor Moon dub! First up is Jennifer Gould, who played the voice of Sailor Saturn in the original English dub of Sailor Moon S. She also appeared as the voice of Parapara of the Amazoness Quartet in Sailor Moon SuperS and as the astronaut Himeko Nayotake, Kakeru’s love interest in the Sailor Moon S movie. Jennifer Gould is also an accomplished singer who won a Juno in 2008. Juno is Canadian for Grammy.

Also appearing is Erica Mendez, the voice of Reika, Motoki’s girlfriend, in Viz’s new dub of the original Sailor Moon anime. This is a somewhat minor role in the series though Erica Mendez is more well known for other anime voice acting credits such as Aladdin in Magi: The Kingdom of Magic and Ryuko Matoi in Kill la Kill.

Yuko Minaguchi, the voice of Sailor Saturn

Anime Boston is this coming weekend, May 21st to the 23rd, at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston and they will be hosting a number of great Sailor Moon voice actors! Yuko Minaguchi, the original Japanese voice of Sailor Saturn, will be in attendance along with English voice actors Linda Ballantyne, the voice of Sailor Moon, Toby Proctor, the voice of Tuxedo Mask, and John Stocker, voice director for the later seasons of the English dub of Sailor Moon.

Yuko Minaguchi will have a panel at 5pm on Friday and will be available for autographs on Saturday at 5:30pm. On Friday at 1pm there will be a “voices of Sailor Moon” panel, though which actors that includes in not clear. Linda Ballantyne, Toby Proctor and John Stocker will be signing autographs on Friday at 4pm. They will have individual panels throughout the weekend. John Stocker’s panel is at 2pm on Friday afternoon. Linda Ballantyne’s panel will be at 10:30am Saturday morning. Toby Proctor’s panel is at 12:30pm on Saturday.

Volumes 7 and 8 of the Complete Editions of the Sailor Moon manga are on sale in Japan

Sailor Moon manga complete editions - vol. 7 and vol. 8 covers

The latest books in the complete editions of the Sailor Moon manga were released in Japan on February 26th. Volume 7 features Sailor Pluto and Sailor Saturn on the cover while volume 8 features Sailor Chibi Moon. These issues cover the entirety of the Dream arc with Pegasus and the Dead Moon Circus. These books are Japanese text only and include all of the colour pages which were previously only seen in the pages of Nakayoshi.

Also included in these books are a few side stories. Chibiusa’s Picture Diary 3 is the story of Chibiusa’s adventures going to the dentist, and fighting a monster on the way. There are also three “Exam Battle” stories which follow the girls in their preparations for their high school entrance exams. We have The Melancholy of Makoto, Ami’s First Love and Rei and Minako’s Girl School Battle?

Volumes 9 and 10 will wrap up the series with the Stars arc. Hopefully Sailor V will be published soon as well though I have seen no official confirmation of this.

Sailor Saturn S. H. Figuarts prototype revealed at Wonder Festival 2014

Sailor Saturn S. H. Figuarts Prototype

This weekend at Wonder Festival 2014 in Chiba Japan Bandai revealed their prototype for the Sailor Saturn S. H. Figuarts figure. After Sailor Moon, Mercury, Mars, Jupiter and Venus had been revealed it was not clear who would be next, but we now know it will be Sailor Saturn. This prototype is not painted so it is only grey.

Why Sailor Saturn? This seems like an odd choice given earlier figures were released in the order of their appearance in the manga and anime, though we seem to be getting Sailor Venus before Sailor Jupiter. The next obvious choice would have been Sailor Pluto or perhaps Sailor Uranus or Neptune or even Tuxedo Mask or Sailor Chibi Moon but not Sailor Saturn, based on order of appearance alone. Regardless, Sailor Saturn is a popular character and her Silence Glaive accessory looks great. Looking forward to seeing more of this figure and what other Sailor Moon characters will come in the S. H. Figuarts line. I wouldn’t chance a guess at who we’ll see next at this point.

Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune in the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic comic

The latest issue of the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Micro Series comic, issue #8 featuring Princess Celestia on the cover, includes a few familiar faces for Sailor Moon fans! Inside these pages are pony versions of Sailor Uranus, Sailor Neptune (pictured above), Sailor Saturn and Sailor Chibi Moon (pictured below) and Sailor Pluto (in the third photo).

The similar colours and hair styles aren’t the only similarity as these ponies also have very specific cutie marks which are the symbols of their respective planets and in Sailor Chibi Moon’s case a heart with moon in it which is similar but not identical to any single one of her transformation brooches.

In addition to these ponies we can also see the Moon Stick sitting on Princess Celestia’s night stand. The other item could be Sailor Neptune’s Deep Aqua Mirror but I’m unsure if this is an intentional reference or not.

Keiko Han and Yuko Minaguchi, the voices of Luna and Sailor Saturn, to appear at Animazement in May

Keiko Han, the voice of Luna in Sailor Moon

Keiko Han, the voice of Luna the cat from the Sailor Moon anime and live action series, and Yuko Minaguchi, the voice of Sailor Saturn from the anime, will be making appearance at the Animazement anime convention in North Caroline May 24th to the 26th.

Both of these Japanese voice actors have a ton of anime credits to their name and will surely have a very interesting perspective on the voice acting world in Japan and their roles in Sailor Moon. Though the schedule is not determined yet Animazement generally have guest panels and autograph signings. Volume 8 of Kodansha Comics’ English release of the Sailor Moon manga hit stores yesterday. You can pick it up from many comic and book stores or from Amazon at the link below. This volume has the lovely Sailor Neptune on the cover. In this book we see the conclusion of the “Infinity” arc involving Sailor Saturn and Mistress 9 and move on to the “Dream” arc which introduces us to Pegasus. Keep reading for a few photos of the inside of the book.
