Kotono Mitsuishi, the voice of Sailor Moon, narrates the Japanese Wonder Woman trailer

Do you like female super heroes? The Japanese Wonder Woman trailer is out and it is narrated by none other than Kotono Mitsuishi, the Japanese voice of Sailor Moon in the original Sailor Moon anime and Sailor Moon Crystal! Watch the trailer below!

For years I’ve tried to argue that Sailor Moon is the most iconic female comic super hero! This was certainly true in the 90s when Sailor Moon was a worldwide phenomenon. Wonder Woman is the other obvious answer people give when asked who the most popular female comic book character is. I have no interest in detracting from her importance as a character but having been featured in one TV series 40 years ago and only in 2017 having her first theatrical film she has some catching up to do! Still when most people in the English speaking world hear “comic book super hero” they think of Superman, Batman, capes and tights, which brings Wonder Woman to mind.

The Wonder Woman film will be released on June 2nd in North America and August 25th in Japan. It stars Gal Gadot who will be reprising her role from the Batman v Superman movie from last year. I think she did a great job in the last film and am looking forward to seeing this film. It’s always great to see a film like this promoting women as being strong, independent and kicking ass.

The theme of the shirt “Choose Your Sailor” is inspired by video game character select screens. This is a fictional game screen but we don’t have to imagine what such a thing would look like! Above is a screenshot from the character select screen for the Sailor Moon Super Famicom game from 1993. The shirt’s design shows silhouettes the main set of five Sailor Guardians Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, Sailor Moon, Sailor Jupiter and Sailor Venus all complemented by their own colour and planetary symbol.

“Moon Wars” Sailor Moon/Star Wars t-shirt on sale at OtherTees

There’s a great shirt on sale this week at OtherTees which features a Sailor Moon/Star Wars crossover. It is a take on the original Star Wars movie poster. Sailor Moon takes the place of Luke Skywalker while Tuxedo Mask is sitting at her knees, as Princess Leia does in the original poster. The face of Queen Beryl replaces that of Darth Vader in the background. Luna and Artemis replace the droids R2D2 and C3PO off to the side.

The shirt sells for $11 but you can save $1 on it by using the promo code SailorMoonNews at checkout. As with many shirt sites this is a limited time sale ending at 5pm Easter Time on Thursday May 7th so be sure to pick it up while you have a chance. These shirts are Hello Senshi, featuring Sailor Moon, and Hello Serenity, featuring Neo Queen Serenity. The shirt is a parody of the Castlevania video game box art for the Nintendo Entertainment System with Sailor Moon and her Moon Stick replacing Simon Belmont and his whip as well as Queen Beryl replacing Dracula. The Tao of Meow and Teen Romance Comics Sailor Moon shirts today at The Yetee

There are two new Sailor Moon shirts for sale today and today only at The Yetee. These shirts are only for sale on August 6th for $11. The first shirt, “The Tao of Meow” has Luna and Artemis posed like a Yin and Yang symbol lying on top of a bed of roses and various Sailor Moon transformation and attack items. The second shirt, “Teen Romance Comics” has Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask in an old American comic type design.

Today, June 30th 2014, at Ript Apparel you can pick up two great looking Sailor Moon shirts for $10. Select Sailor Scout features Sailor Moon, Mars, Mercury and Jupiter in a character select screen reminiscent of old video games such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. There are actually already a bunch of Sailor Moon beat ‘em up games of that style which were made in the 90s. This screen is an original design, not one from one of those games. The second shirts is Lunar Express featuring Luna as the Cat Bus from My Neighbour Totoro which we’ve posted about on the site before.

Eight new Sailor Moon shirts are available today at Pop Up Tee

Pop Up Tee has a ton of Sailor Moon shirts, some new and some old, for sale until 2pm on Monday June 22nd for $12.99 a piece.

Two new shirts we haven’t seen before are I Heart Tokyo, with Usagi’s face for the heart, and Moon Queen, showing Usagi and Sailor Moon in a playing card like design. These two shirts are by artist Baznet. For more of his stuff check out his Redbubble store, deviantART page or tumblr.
