  • Sailor Moon Celebration at the Ontario Science Center

There will be a lot to keep a fan busy with a number of panels, a vendor area and craft area. Tickets are currently only $10. The price of tickets will be going up tomorrow, August 27th, so get your tickets now. If you didn’t get a chance don’t worry, they are only going up to $12. Entry into the Ontario Science Centre exhibits must be purchased separately for those who are interested in them. I visited the Ontario Science Centre last summer and found there were a lot of interesting exhibits there which are worth checking out.

Along with your ticket you can order a $2 International Sailor Moon Day wrist band which is exclusive to this event. The event carries some Sailor Moon Day branding as it was originally planned for Sailor Moon Day earlier this month before being delayed.

International Sailor Moon Day 2015 Wrist Bands

Roland Parliament recently wrote the book Sailor Moon Reflections which recounted many memories from his time recording Sailor Moon. Though I never got a chance to formally review the book I did read it and found it to be fantastic. It is a very interesting take on the history of Sailor Moon that any fan of the original dub should check out.

Today is International Sailor Moon Day. Is your city doing anything to celebrate?

    Anime Expo Logo

The anime convention’s schedule is now online, where the event was listed. This will be Act 1, Usagi – Sailor Moon, and Act 2, Ami – Sailor Mercury. The English dub, by Viz Media, will keep the same cast that their new English dub of the original anime used. Some of those actors will be present at the convention. Since this convention takes place in California all times will be in Pacific Time.

    KISS and Momoiro Clover Z

Also at the convention will be Momoiro Clover Z, the band which performs the Sailor Moon Crystal opening theme, Moon Pride, and ending theme, Gekkou or Moonbow. Momoiro Clover Z will be performing on Thursday July 2nd with KISS members Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons. The two bands recently collaborated on a single released as Momoiro Clover Z vs. KISS. Jennifer Cihi to appear at JABEcon in Lebanon, Tennessee this Saturday May 23rd

    Jennifer Cihi

Jennifer Cihi, a singer who performed many songs for the original English dub of Sailor Moon, will be making an appearance at JABEcon this coming Saturday at Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tennessee, not far from Nashville. Often credited as the singing voice of Sailor Moon, Jennifer Cihi’s voice was heard in the series and on the three soundtracks that were made for the show.

A quick look at the JABEcon schedule shows Jennifer Cihi appearing at two panels, held at 10:30am and 1pm.

    10:30am to 11:30am
“Intro to Singing with Jennifer Cihi”:
Learn the ins and outs of singing in Anime, Music City, and much more with guest Jennifer Cihi (Singing Voice of Sailor Moon, Princess Mononoke, and an accomplished singer in Music City).

    1:00pm to 2:00pm
“Sailor Moon Fan Panel with Jennifer Cihi”:
Join Jennifer Cihi (The singing voice of Sailor Moon) as we travel back to the 1990s when Sailor Moon was singing her way to pop culture and talk about the hit show’s impact. Bring your Sailor Moon cosplay and Q&A for a chance to win a cool prize!

On Sailor Moon soundtracks Jennifer Cihi is credited as Sailor Moon, Princess Serena and Sailor Mars. She provided the vocals for “I Wanna Be A Star!”, “My Only Love”, “Carry On”, “It’s A New Day”, “Call My Name”, “The Power of Love”, “I Want Someone to Love”, “I Want to Hold Your Hand” and “Who Do You Think You Are?”.

Jennifer Gould, the voice of Sailor Saturn, to appear at Unplugged Expo 4 from July 31st to August 2nd in Toronto

Jen Gould the voice of Sailor Saturn

Unplugged Expo continues in their tradition of having great Sailor Moon voice actors as guests at their convention. For Unplugged Expo 4 in downtown Toronto the weekend of July 31st to August 2nd they will have voice actors from the original and new Sailor Moon dub! First up is Jennifer Gould, who played the voice of Sailor Saturn in the original English dub of Sailor Moon S. She also appeared as the voice of Parapara of the Amazoness Quartet in Sailor Moon SuperS and as the astronaut Himeko Nayotake, Kakeru’s love interest in the Sailor Moon S movie. Jennifer Gould is also an accomplished singer who won a Juno in 2008. Juno is Canadian for Grammy.

    Reika Nishimura

Also appearing is Erica Mendez, the voice of Reika, Motoki’s girlfriend, in Viz’s new dub of the original Sailor Moon anime. This is a somewhat minor role in the series though Erica Mendez is more well known for other anime voice acting credits such as Aladdin in Magi: The Kingdom of Magic and Ryuko Matoi in Kill la Kill.

Keiko Han, the voice of Luna, and Amanda Miller, the voice of Sailor Jupiter, to appear at Animazement May 22nd to the 24th in Raleigh, North Carolina

Keiko Han, the voice of Luna in Sailor Moon

North Carolina Sailor Moon fans will have a chance to meet voice actors from Japan and North America at Animazement at the Raleigh Convention Center in Raleigh, North Carolina this coming May 22nd to the 24th! The convention will feature Keiko Han, who voiced Luna in the original Sailor Moon anime and the live action Sailor Moon series, as well as Amanda C. Miller, the voice of Sailor Juipter in Viz’s new dub of the original Sailor Moon anime.

Besides these Sailor Moon artists this convention will also feature a number of other guests from Japanese and English voices of many anime series.

Amanda C. Miller - The voice of Sailor Jupiter

Linda Ballantyne and Toby Proctor, the voices of Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask, to appear at Otafest in Calgary May 15th to the 17th

Linda Ballantyne and Toby Proctor at Otafest

Linda Ballantyne, the voice of Sailor Moon, and Toby Proctor, the voice of Tuxedo Mask, will be appearing at Otafest at the University of Calgary May 8th to the 10th. Amongst other events the convention will feature a live script reading of a Sailor Moon script with the two of them voicing their characters. I wonder what script they are planning to use, as the two have never appeared in the same episode together.

Linda Ballantyne is the third voice of Sailor Moon, voicing the character for the 3rd and 4th seasons, Sailor Moon S and SuperS. During these episodes the voice of Tuxedo Mask was provided by Vince Corazza. Toby Proctor is the second voice of Tuxedo Mask, taking over after Rino Romano voiced him for only a few episodes, covering most of the first two seasons, Sailor Moon and Sailor Moon R. Toby Proctor’s Tuxedo Mask acted opposite Terri Hawkes, who was herself the second voice of Sailor Moon.

The schedule of events for Otafest is already online. Friday at 7:30pm North American the Voice Acting Roundtable will included Linda Ballantyne and Toby Proctor. This is followed by an autograph session at 8:30pm. Saturday afternoon the two actors have another autograph session at 1:30pm. The Sailor Moon script reading will take place on Sunday afternoon at 2pm

The voice cast from Viz’s Sailor Moon Crystal dub will be the same as the cast of the new dub of the original anime

Sailor Moon Crystal dub voice cast

This past weekend was Anime Boston at the Hynes Convention Center in downtown Boston. At the convention Viz announced the voice cast for their upcoming dub of Sailor Moon Crystal. We’ve known for some time that Viz had the rights to dub Sailor Moon Crystal and it seemed only logical that the dub cast would be the same as the cast for Viz’s new dub of the original anime. This has been confirmed to be the case. Only the main voice actors were mentioned but it stands to reason that all of the cast will return. The slide shown above confirms Sailor Moon, the Sailor Guardians, Tuxedo Mask and the cats are all returning.

Usagi Tsukino/Sailor Moon – Stephanie Sheh
Ami Mizuno/Sailor Mercury – Kate Higgins
Rei Hino/Sailor Mars – Cristina Vee
Makoto Kino/Sailor Jupiter – Amanda Miller
Minako Aino/Sailor Venus – Cherami Leigh
Mamoru Chiba/Tuxedo Mask – Robbie Daymond
    Luna – Michelle Ruff
    Artemis – Johnny Yong Bosch

This is no surprise. These voice actors are all on board to do the dub through SailorStars, the final season, so why wouldn’t they also keep them to do the Sailor Moon Crystal dub?

The series will be using the updated animation used for the Japanese Blu-Ray releases. As mentioned in my reviews of these Blu-Rays there are a number of minor animation updates for these which are generally cosmetic.
