Sailor Moon/Hunger Games shirt for sale this week at Zebra Tees

The Senshi Games Sailor Moon/Hunger Games shirt at Zebra Tees

Here’s a shirt which crosses Sailor Moon and The Hunger Games which is for sale for the next week, January 29th to February 4th, at Zebra Tees for just $9. I’m not terribly well versed in The Hunger Games but it seems that the logo resembles a District Seal. It has “District” written in Japanese Katakana on it and the Kanji symbol for “Moon” is at the bottom where the number of the District would usually appear. The writing above the seal says “The Sailor Senshi Games”.

The shirt is by Machmigo who also made the Lunar Express shirt which sold at ShirtPunch. This shirt and the rest in the series are available in her RedBubble store. In addition to Sailor Moon she also has Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, Sailor Jupiter and Sailor Venus for sale. Also check out her Facebook Page, Twitter Feed, tumblr or deviantArt page for more of her work.

A Sailor Moon reference from the lastest episode of The Simpsons

Sailor Moon reference in The Simpsons - Kumiko as a Sailor Senshi and Comic Book Guy as The Stargate

Last week’s episode of The Simpsons, “Married to the Blob” which first aired January 12th 2014, contained a Sailor Moon reference! The episode’s plot revolved around Comic Book Guy falling in love with a Japanese woman named Kumiko. During a montage of them galavanting around town and falling in love the two of them are seen cosplaying at the Bi-Mon Sci-Fi Con. Kumiko is wearing a Sailor Moon inspired costume while Comic Book Guy is dressed as the Stargate. The costume does not look like that of any specific Sailor Soldier. It’s colours somewhat resemble Sailor Saturn or Sailor Mercury’s Sailor Fuku but the pigtails are clearly meant to be reminiscent of Sailor Moon’s, though they are black and not blonde. It’s unclear if this is meant to be an authentic costume of a show in The Simpsons universe which is simply Sailor Moon like or if Kumiko is wearing a costume of her original character based on the series Sailor Moon which would in that case fully exist in the Simpsons world.

The episode is riddled with comic and pop culture references including special guests Stan Lee and Harlan Ellison. In this same scene Kumiko even jumps through the Stargate and turns into a Wizard from Hogwarts from the Harry Potter franchise.

Usagi and Umino lookalikes in Doki Doki Pretty Cure

Marmo and Ira as Usagi and Umino in Doki Doki Precure

A recent episode of the popular anime series Doki Doki Pretty Cure featured two characters who looked suspiciously similar to Usagi (Sailor Moon) and Umino (Melvin) from Sailor Moon! The girl’s school uniform actually resembles Minako’s outfit more than Usagi’s but the colours are similar and the hair in pig tails is rare enough to make this reference seem intentional. The boy’s large glasses and school uniform are nearly identical to that worn by Umino in the anime. This takes place in episode 44, “Selfish’s Trap! The Christmas Without Mana”, which premiered on December 15th.

Serena and Melvin getting Married

The two characters were actually a couple of the series villains Ira and Marmo who were disguising themselves as students in order to connivince the main character Mana that there was a King of Student Councils Contest in order to take her out of the picture and defeat the good guys (or good girls, rather).

Jetpack Joyride features a Sailor Moon inspired Lunar Scout Outfit

Sailor Moon's outfit appears in Jetpack Joyride as the Lunar Scout Outfit

Jetpack Joyride has a new costume available which will seem familiar to Sailor Moon fans. This “Lunar Scout Outfit” is clearly inspired by Sailor Moon’s Sailor Fuku. It mostly looks like her original outfit. The round shoulder pieces are similar to those found on Eternal Sailor Moon’s costume, though the lack of wings and general colours are inconsistent with that look.

Sailor Moon inspired Lunar Scout Outfit in Jetpack Joyride

The name is a reference to the dub “Sailor Scouts” and the description of the outfit is inspired by the dub theme song lines “Fighting evil by Moonlight. Winning love by daylight.”.

Battle evil in the Moonlight and fall in love during the day … man it all happens when you wear this outfit!

To get this costume you need to get the Strong Arm Machine (S.A.M.) five days in a row. This is activated by collecting special letter tokens that spawn once a day. Jetpack Joyride is a free game that you can download on most mobile devices as well as the PlayStation store, though the PlayStation versions do not have this and other more recent outfits.
