An album of Sailor Moon Eternal character songs was released today, February 10th

Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal Character Song Collection Eternal Collection - Cover

A new CD featuring character songs went on sale today, February 10th, in Japan. The full title of the album is “Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal Character Song Collection Eternal Collection”. Character songs are hardly new to Sailor Moon! These are songs which are performed by voice actors from the series as those characters. I don’t know what, if any, of these songs will actually appear in the films. Often character song don’t actually appear in the film or series they’re associated with but in some cases they have.

The album is available to stream on a number of platforms. Many of these, including Spotify, are restricted only to users in those areas. Apple Music allowed me to play 90 seconds of each track which gives a nice impression of most songs. This was a longer preview than I found on any other servies.

Update: You can stream the entire album on Spotify!

Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal Character Song Collection Eternal Collection - Luxury Edition

You can also order this from online stores. I usually order my Sailor Moon CDs from Amazon Japan but for whatever reason this album is not in stock. It is available to order from CD Japan for 3500 yen, $33.50 US. There are two versions of the album. The “cheaper” version, which is still expensive by North American standards, has an MSRP of 3500 yen. The “Luxury Edition” costs over double that price with an MSRP of 7800 yen, almost $75 US. This comes with a “Moon Crisis Bangle”, which is a nice word for bracelet, as well as a ticket to the Eternal Weekend Party event in Japan on March 21st. Needless to say I don’t expect that this version of the album would have much appeal to fans outside of Japan.

  1. I’d have to revise my earlier opinion and say that the vocals for Venus (CV: Itou Shizuka) are my favourite on this album, followed by the Chibi & Helios and the Amazoness Quartet songs. It’s a shame that Nanao and Watanabe Naomi didn’t get any character songs, though I can understand why.

I second Apple Music for previewing: not only are the preview clips unusually long but also lossless–though I’m guessing in a few days the full audio tracks will be up on YT anyway.

FYI, the “Eternal Weekend Party” is an *online* event according to according to http://sailormoon-official.com. If you understand some JP or have a good translator on hand (and are awake at the right time), I could see the overseas fan appeal for this event, assuming it happens:

    ○ Date: March 21, 2021 (Sun)
    ○ Performer (planned): Kotono Mitsuishi・ Misato Fukuen and others

That’s over a month after Part II is released, which is unusual timing to promote anything related the theatrical release of the movie (unless the event is to promote…something else?).

  2. The set overall looks really nice.

I listened to Astral Mission and Moon Effect the other day and they sound pretty nice, though I was hoping that the Outer Senshi would have their own individual songs like the Inner Senshi do, especially when we had new Inner Senshi songs from the first Crystal album but that’s just a personal preference.

      • Will foreign fans be interested? Sure.

Will enough of them be willing to pay to see it in theaters?

Depends on the country. Depends on whether overseas theaters will even want to license it from a distributor. Depends on marketing. Depends on timing. Depends on if theaters are even open. Depends on a lot of things.

The domestic release was already extremely limited, showing in less than half of theaters nationwide. Eternal Part I barely managed to gross top 9 in box office revenues the week after opening. Part II will probably not be so fortunate.

And if you’re referring to a streaming release, don’t expect anything soon. Netflix especially has been known to vault its projects for years before releasing them.

          • Don’t worry, we’ll probably have it streaming in the next few months. They don’t want pirates leaking it before they can make money internationally.
A theatre release anytime soon is doubtful, for good reason.

    • OMG!!!! The Golden Crystal!!! And look at that Starlight Honeymoon Thereapy Kiss!!!! How beautiful!!!! Unless that’s not what it is? In the manga, does she just use the tier without a named attack at this point in the Dream Arc?

  3. I’m dying for news. I’ve looped this album a dozen times now and listened to Tsukiiro Chainon 100+ times, played it through a karaoke filter, and learned the harmonies.

yay yay yay yay moon fragment

I guess the next big thing will be that online fan event in March for people who bought the deluxe version of this album.

    • Yup, but it doesn’t mean anything yet, so stay tuned.

Anyone else notice that Mercury was the only one who wasn’t able to kill her opponent by herself? She had to get backup from Moon Gorgeous Meditations.

Mars shattered TIger with her arrow, Jupiter thwopped Hawk with leaves, and Venus killed those two clowns with kindness. I’m not thrilled that the “brainy” one is consistently portrayed as the weakest one.

      • Completely agree with you and, since Mercury has always been my favourite (even before Pluto), that’s always made me angry. Also, Mercury is the one who always had the shortest transformation among the Inner Senshi. Not to mention the fact that in the classic anime, Mars progressively took her place in the transformation and attack sequences: and thus, Mercury became the third Senshi to transform and attack. I never liked this, right after Moon and Mars.

          • I just looked it up, and even worse, she flat out tells “Amy” that she was a scout before her. The liar!

Haha, we better watch it or Adam will kick us off this pro-Rei site!
I really do like Rei, I think the dynamic she had with Usagi in the old anime was fun.

          • Oh my God. And just because she wants to be the leader. My mouth is full is insults. This is revisionism and this should not be tolerated. But yeah, I don’t wanna be banned from Adam’s wonderful website so, I’ll refrain myself! XD

Thank you for the video source!

          • Good lord, you guys are talking about the DiC dub? The one where Makoto was named “Lita”?

Blasphemy. Star Gentle Uteruses on all of you.

          • I don’t know if it’s the DiC dub because as a non-native English speaker European I don’t know any of the American dubs. So no, I’m not into it, so I’m now out and very far from the Star Gentle Uteruses impact, no thank you :D . Saintfighteraqua, I am very sorry to leave you alone in there, but obviously, you will have to handle this by yourself ;p .

          • I don’t know if I can handle two Star Gentle Uteruses at once. One I’d survive. Two might be the end of me.
            Where’s Joseph?

          • Joseph’s last messages were posted on 11 February. He’s an avid commenter just like us, so I’m a bit worried and I hope he’s fine!

        • If you think that’s bad, in the original English dub at the end of R, (the boring recap episode) Mars even states she was the first “scout” to join Sailor Moon. Poor Mercury!

That episode did have some funny things in it, though, like how they compared Dr. Tomoe and Kaolinite to a grown up Melvin (Umino) and Molly (Naru.)

          • I didn’t know that, and I should check the French dub as well on that part. And that’s why I hated Mars as a kid. No joke, that girl was a tyrant in the classic anime, and nobody never dared to tell her to shut up! She knew Mercury was too weak so she took her place in the most obnoxious way. And the first scout was Venus and not even Moon! Please Elon Musk, go colonize her planet to teach her a good lesson!

          • This said, the comparison of Tomoe and Kaolinite to Umino and Naru is indeed a fun one! Who knows? Maybe they were their alien doppelgangers from the future?
