Sailor Moon Crystal Act 30 Preview - Usagi and Haruka

The next new episode of Sailor Moon Crystal airs on Japanese TV Monday May 2nd at 11pm Japan Standard Time and will be available to stream on Crunchyroll, Neon Alley and Hulu immediately afterwards, starting at 10:30am Eastern Time. Episodes are sometimes limited to Hulu Plus users at first but should be viewable on Neon Alley right away. I always watch the episodes on Crunchyroll myself because I’m Canadian and find the feed is of a better quality. Act 30, Infinity 4 – Sailor Uranus – Haruka Tenoh – Sailor Neptune – Michiru Kaioh has got to be the longest Sailor Moon Crystal episode title to date! The new Sailor Guardians have introduced themselves but we’re about to see that they’re not quite as friendly as we might have hoped.

Sailor Moon Crystal Act 30 Preview - Mamoru and Usagi

As Mamoru and Usagi struggle with their relationship troubles we’ll be getting our first look at the Holy Grail, an item which is first seen as Chibiusa creates a replica of it based on what she’s seen in the future, even though it doesn’t exist yet. We’ll also be seeing an old friend we thought was dead!

  1. Looking forward to it. Also, I have Hulu Plus, and my general experience has been that the episodes don’t appear until 10:45am or later. But that might just be me.

  2. 1. I hope Chibiusa will be held in Rei’s arms.
    2. I’m still counting on a Sailor Moon/Pokemon anime crossover special, so it’s been 5 episodes of Season 3.
    Here’s the Japanese cast:
    Kotono Mitsuishi as Sailor Moon
    Aya Hisakawa as Sailor Mercury
    Michie Tomizawa as Sailor Mars
    Emi Shinohara as Sailor Jupiter
    Rica Fukami as Sailor Venus
    Toru Furuya as Tuxedo Mask
Kae Araki as Sailor Chibi Moon
    Keiko Han as Luna
    Yasuhiro Takato as Artemis
    Rica Matsumoto as Ash Ketchum
    Mayumi Iizuka as Misty
    Yuji Ueda as Brock
    Ikue Otani as Pikachu
    Megumi Hayashibara as Jessie
    Shinichiro Miki as James
    Inuko Inuyama as Meowth
    And here’s the English cast:
    Stephanie Sheh as Sailor Moon
    Kate Higgins as Sailor Mercury
    Cristina Valenzuela as Sailor Mars
Amanda Celine Miller as Sailor Jupiter
    Cherami Leigh as Sailor Venus
    Robbie Daymond as Tuxedo Mask
Sandy Fox as Sailor Chibi Moon
    Michelle Ruff as Luna
    Johnny Yong Bosch as Artemis
Veronica Taylor as Ash Ketchum (hopefully)
Rachael Lillis as Misty, and Jessie (hopefully)
Eric Stuart as Brock, and Brock (hopefully)
    Ikue Otani as Pikachu
Carter Cathcart as Meowth (since Maddie Blaustein passed away in 2008).
And Ash Ketchum will be in Sailor Mars’ arms after being injured and in Sailor Moon’s arms after being rescued in the final battle. :D :D :D :D :D :D

  3. Considering that the episodes start and end differently from Manga chapters, I am not sure if they will introduce that “old friend” in this episode

    • They were blah honestly. Disappointing as this is something fans were looking forward to the most honestly.

And the potential just by looking at Sailor Moon’s or even her daughters, it’s trash compared to theirs.

      Oh well…

      • Looking at them again, they’re not that bad really, it’s just the expectations were high as fuck, and the music was wack and not fitting at all. Why couldn’t they have played that dope ass violin music that was played in this

          • Haha. They were definitely super underwhelming. I was really disappointed. If they had good music it would’ve made it better. Plus I think whoever was animating then maybe thought the symbols were supposed to stay sideways…at least Neptune’s.

        • I have to also agree, pretty disappointed in the “new” transformations… since they decided to have them transform without the liprods they had an opportunity get pretty creative… the glowing hand was just kindof weird. And the sequence felt way shorter than the inners. I wonder what happened there.

          • I’m actually very shocked there were no transformation pens as well. Yes, they didn’t have them in the manga, but neither did the inner guardians…further more, Endymion never had a communicator either, so they’re really missing out on some possible marketing opportunities.

          • I thought they looked good but yeah, it would have been nice to have a little bit more newness to it. The inners have a pretty good combo the old and the new making it feel like a new updated version where as Uranus and Neptune were basically as before. I also didn’t like seeing them say the make-up part. It just seemed weird to give them a separate frame of them naked to say that part when no other transformation does that.

  4. Oh God this was just another disappointment! At first the new tacky version of the opening theme – I though nothing can be worse than the original, but it actually Can! I put all my hopes to Mamoiro Clover Z version…. For the second – a lot of meaningless discussions instead of action! And of course because of that they have to hurry to conclude the episode, so the battle with Viluy was reaaaaaly boring and full of plot holes and after the amazing last week Mimete’s death, Viluy’s death was sooo ordinary and cheap… And finally the third thing – U and N transformations are really underwhelming, mainly because of the music which is just totally bland… Also U new attack was animated pretty cheaply…. And the last thing – the second ending theme is just simply a joke, isn’t it? I mean it is super cute but… Really a joke.

  5. Wow. They actually managed to make the opening music worse and replaced a perfectly good ending theme with whatever the hell that was supposed to be. I was mesmerized by Chibiusa’s walking because of how badly it was animated. Her body moved well enough, but her head and hair were just a cutout that shifted up and down like a paperdoll. Even I animate better than that (and that’s not a joke, I’ve literally animated better).

I was a little let down by the transformations, but they were…adequate? I’ll go with adequate. I was hoping for more and, yes, maybe some violin music considering the characters involved, but they weren’t as bad as they could have been.

Thinking of violins, Neptune’s violin screeching “attack” almost made me laugh because the music that started up was obviously NOT violin (or rather, the violin screeching was covered up by additional music). Uranus’s Space Sword Blaster was, again, adequate. I think the real star of this ep was Mercury’s attack. Mercury Aqua Mirage was awesome. :)

Hello Plu… I mean HELLO SETSUNA WHO IS TOTALLY NOT PLUTO. It’s nice to meet you for the first time ever. …But where is your lipstick? This makes me really uncomfortable. Last season they had too many people wearing lipstick, and now they have no one wearing lipstick, not even the characters who ought to be. :O

Ugh, I don’t know. Maybe it’ll be better next week?

  6. I whole heartly agree that the outers transformations were lacking somewhat, I know they never really had pens in the manga but there weren’t planet power sticks for the inners but they improvised, the power in there hands just were boring other then that was a cut and paste minus the bitching original transformation music for U & N, the slightly modified intro song is that Neptune’s actress singing that? and the chibi usa ending imho should of been used later on say near the end of the dreams arc or even in the stars arc when she comes back (fingers crossed they actually get that far) story wise they really rammed it all in a tiny bit and a sad battle on mercury vs villu, very cool transformation for mercury with diving into the pool and coming out as her senshi outfit, think it would of been slightly better if she had idk like a water effect or something sparkly, at least lets hope that next week we get the not surprise pluto transformation and if memory serves chibi moon gets her rod too, then after that we get crisis power for moon, not sure if the 20 some minuets are worth it for the show, cant they give like even 5 to 10 more mins to give us some real battles since this episode was damn near 1:1 with the act in the manga, if they messed up the outers transformations which im sure pluto will be just as bad, im really scared for saturns transformation, even tho they have the crystals at that point when she finally transforms, lets hope they don’t botch this up

  7. The episode really felt rushed, flat and nothing amazing. Maybe we are just expecting too much.

In regards to the missing lip rods, which is of course, only present in the 90’s anime, maybe the animators decided on this move because the Outers are on their own, no cats are present to give them some items. They (the cats) even said that they are not supposed to be near them because their jurisdiction is far away. Maybe there are other reasons but this is the only logical reason I can think of and that “Faithful to the Manga” aspect.

    • Dammit, I’ve just watched the episode and I had not noticed U. and N. were not given Lip rods to transform ! Thank you for warning :) . This absence of Lip rods is weird, and crappy in some way, but I like your explanation and how you’re trying to fill the blank :D .

  8. Like everyone here (or almost everyone, maybe), I’m disappointed by U. and N. transformations. Nothing new since the classic anime. They are quick, impersonal, featureless, and the music behind is bland.

Uranus’ features, again, are badly depicted : what about her main color ? Is it navy blue or yellow ? Or what about the wind in her transformation and attacks ? All of it looks like sand (for her transformation) and balls of energy/light instead of wind. Transparent wind (so, normal wind…) can be animated, see for instance “Avatar – The Last Airbender”…

The rest of the episode was so-so. The second part could have been great, but it was rushed. And poor Mercury who always seems to be the weakest… And compared to Mars and Venus in the previous episodes, she doesn’t even get a whole transformation ! But I admit that her rushed transformation in the water was a very pretty moment. It could have been epic, though.

Good episode ; not bad, just correct. I’m eager to see Pluto in the next ep. !

I’m glad to see I’m not the only one to dislike the new songs.

      • Thank you for this picture Matt :) . I already knew it, and I find strange that Toei never took the same direction as Naoko Takeuchi : see her official artwork with the Senshi Princesses. Uranus wears a navy blue dress, and her hair is white (white like the wind ?).

I really don’t understand why Toei keeps on mistaking on Uranus like that…

As for Pluto, her main color is black but I suppose it was lavender or garnet in the old anime because of animation reasons (it’s hard to animate the black “color”).

But for Uranus… I really don’t understand. Lol.

  9. Yes, everyone is on the same accord. The music for the purer transformation is so underwhelming, it probably ruined it. Toei really fucked up that, they should have known better specially when the 90s version of the transformation with the violin is so iconic.

The new ending is trash. Absolute fuciking trash both music and art/animation.

Ami/Mercury was dope in this episode. She did that, very cool.

I LOVE the Usagi and Haruka scene and that piano tune, I fucking need it right now!

The new intro singer is not better or worse, it’s whatever honestly.

The fight was blah and apparently I just read that Uranus was supposed to slice Viluy vertically, not kill her in the form of energy matter. Can someone confirm?

    • Yes… There should be even Moon Spiral Heart Attack which Viluy survive without harm and after that she was destroyed by Uranus

      • Sailor Moon summoned the Heart Moon Rod but was not able to start the attack phrase because they were interrupted by the appearance of Haruka and Michiru. I am just reading Act 30 of the Manga actually.

  10. Ugh i don’t know why people hate the new episode and yes the OP was not so good (HORRIBLE) but hey U AND N DON’T NEED TO HAVE THE BEST TRANSFORMATION IT WILL COME LATER YOU GUYS! Also we are supposed to know it’s SAILOR PLUTO OBVIOUSLY THAT IS THE FUCKING TITLE OF THE EPISODE ARE YOU GUYS ACTUALLY IN THE FANDOM!

    • Can you explain us why you are angry like that ? There’s no reason for this, and it’s obvious that you are only harming yourself, alone behind your PC screen.

Yes, we “guys” are in the fandom, and where is the problem if our opinions are different from yours ?

Also, capital letters are really annoying and are a mark of no disrespect towards your readers.

Calm yourself and accept people’s views may be different from yours.

  11. Such a blah episode. The new intro is okay but what’s with the sound effects, they throw it off for me. I actually loved the first version!
And the new Chibiusa ending theme…I don’t know if I can handle it…or ever grow to like it. Why on Earth did they choose that? Are they trying to bring back the Chibi Moon hate?

The new transformations disappointed me…I do not like the petals…they are just weird here. I think the main two issues are the music being so bland and the lack of the sticks. Uranus’ face is kind of weird, but that’s okay…

  12. I’m confused about the part where Usagi and Mamo worked together on the Holy Grail because the episode cut out the part where Usagi went to the shop. So did they create the Holy Grail together or did she just bought it of the shop?

    Please answer me.

  13. I don’t know about you guys but honestly i really really liked this episode. I like the transformation (they weren’t that bad), i liked Space Sword Blaster(i think that’s it’s name right? ) I know , Sailor Neptune’s violin attack it was kind of silly and confusing but it was too funny to be mad at it,I loved how they showed Setsuna in the end and how she was kind of mysterious (even though we all knew that she was Sailor Pluto by the hair), the ending was not very good but it was too cute to be mad at it, and the best for the last, Sailor Mercury(Ami Mizuno)was such a badass in this episode, she finally was acting smart by destroing the camera with her pen and then investigating on the Mugen Academy and her transformation OMG this was Mercury we all wanted to se since the beginning of SMC an Ami that was literally smart not just for her grades but an Ami that was smart and badass everytime that she had to

    • We need some Michiru/Neptune time ASAP. I really hope it’s coming soon. I know not next episode, since that’s mainly Pluto’s time to shine, and I wonder who kills Cyrpine?

  14. The new ending is honestly the worst thing I’ve ever experienced in my life- why couldn’t they have done something amazing for chibi like her ending theme in the Dream Arc of the 90s….. “ONE” – “TWO” – “CUT OUT MY EYES AND STICK KNIVES IN MY EARS”
