Celebrate Sailor Moon’s 30th Anniversary with a five minute slideshow of ads for upcoming merchandise

Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon 30th Anniversary Logo

As we posted about a couple of weeks ago, the Sailor Moon manga is 30 years old, as it was first published on December 28th 1991. The Sailor Moon anime will be 30 years old this year with the first episode airing March 7th 1992. As the Sailor Moon official site and franchise in general made a big deal about the 20th and 25th anniversaries it was only a matter of time until we started the five year long celebration of the 30th anniversary, and that time is now! The 30th Anniversary Logo is here! It’s pretty. Full of colours. It features Eternal Sailor Moon!

What big announcement came with this new logo? New Sailor Moon Crystal? A new musical? Merchandise that people will buy? Not really but they released a “movie” and by movie I mean a slideshow showing merchandise announcements for five minutes which you can watch embedded above. Most of this isn’t that special it just seems like they saved up a few weeks worth of normal stuff they post to the official site and then just dropped them all at once on the day they released the new logo and some intern made this little video about it. I think the only one of these things which is worth even mentioning is that a Sailor Moon museum will be opening for a short time. There aren’t really any details but it’s likely similar to what took place in 2016. Come look at some interesting Sailor Moon things and please buy this exclusive merchandise!

Are you excited about anything that was announced as part of this 30th Anniversary?

  1. Shame they reused artwork for the logo instead of making something new. That piece is from around the 20th anniversary. :/

The final adaptation of Stars (be it episodes or movie) is okay, but it’s more of a closure on the failed relaunch than a draw on its own. The only thing that will revitalize the franchise is a spinoff series with teenage Chibiusa or a brand new ¹

      • Unlikely to happen. Takeuchi-sensei didn’t work this hard three decades ago so that she would have to continue working this hard into her sunset years. She’s cashing out on nostalgia while she still can with the bare minimum amount of effort, and that’s fine.

Sailor Moon won’t last forever, and neither will its fans. This is simply the natural progression of a franchise.

  2. I think this pretty much confirms that they’re only doing Crystal to help them sell more merchandise and honestly don’t care much about the story or the fans. We’re walking, talking wallets to them.

  3. I’ve been staring at the new logo for a while and I cannot for the life of me figure out what’s going on with her fingers. It looks like there are six of them. XD

        • Okay, so after staring at this thing for way too long since they announced the 30th. and trying to make sense of it, I think I’m starting to.
So I loaded it up in Photoshop and zoomed in!

The coloring is so pale that it does appear she has an extra finger, but that “finger” is actually her earlobe.
And instead of Usagi making a rude gesture as it first appears, she’s in fact doing her famous two-finger pose aka the Batman aka the V for victory aka sideways peace sign.

The hand is drawn at a really awkward angle, but I’m sure this is what’s intended. The faint coloring makes her earlobe appear as white, so it causes even further confusion!

          • Hahaha I laughed so hard at “Okay, so after staring at this thing for way too long since they announced the 30th. and trying to make sense of it, I think I’m starting to. So I loaded it up in Photoshop and zoomed in!” :D

Lol I hope though you didn’t pull several all-nighters trying to solve the case ;) .

But this said, yes you’re right, it is her earlobe indeed, with a pink so pale that it seems to be white, the same white they used for her gloved hand.

And personally, I have now decided that a six-fingered Sailor Moon will be my new headcanon. On each of her earlobes grew an extra finger for her 30th birthday :p .
