Kodansha confirms the new Sailor Moon anime will air around January 2014 in 10 languages

Kodansha Comics USA booth at NYCC 2013

This weekend is New York Comic Con where there was a Kodansha Comics panel to discuss many things, including the current state of the Sailor Moon manga, art books and the new Sailor Moon anime we’re all excited to see. A lot of what we already knew was repeated at this panel. We had already heard that the new Sailor Moon anime would air in the winter. This is repeated as being “around January 2014″. The method of distribution was once again confirmed to be Niconico, a Japanese online streaming video site, and it was added that the show will be subtitled in 10 different languages! This would obviously include English, though we can only speculate as to what the other languages may be.

Kodansha Comics USA also gave out some items at their booth including a Sailor Moon 2014 calendar, similar to the one they released last year.

  1. I’ll believe it when I see a sample of the anime (a commercial, a cell, etc). I don’t doubt they said it, but I won’t hold my breath until I see some physical proof from them that there is progress.

  2. i’ll gonna watch the new sailor moon. Because i reallly like to watchsailor moon every day i watch sailor moon even night. :)

  3. Ugh. Not believing anything until I see some solid proof. They keep pushing the date further and further away. Also, SUBBED in 10 different languages. So, subtitles? They can’t even do an English dub for it? C’mon!!

    • Dubbing in languages may come later, it takes a lot of time. Translation, localization, and recording takes time. When the brand new episodes come out from Japan on Niconico, we’ll be able to watch them immediately without waiting for the dub to finish.

  4. Omg, i thought i was the only 25th year old fan addicted to Sailor Moon. Many of my friends dont even remember it, i still watch it and I love the manga. Darien/Mamo-chan is so adorable with Serena/Usagi. I remembering watching it when i was 9 lol. I hope the new one is more the manga and continuing of how Serena became Neo Queen and hopefully Eternal Cosmo
    Star. Cant wait :)
Further more I hope they do the voices in Spanish is so much fun and better, dont get me wrong English is good but I like it in Spanish.

    • I’m 20 and all my friends remember watching it :) and my younger sister 15 and she watched it haha. she didn’t get to see it on tv obviously, but i have the entire series on vhs haha. i keep my vcr just for it <3

    • Hi Sophi. As far as I can tell it’s only currently available in Japanese, English, French, Spanish, Bahasa Indonesia, Bahasa Maleya, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Korean, Portugese, Italian and Turkish. If you can read any of those languages I would try nico nico http://ch.nicovideo.jp/sailormoon_English or Crunchyroll as I know Hulu won’t do international.
