  1. I remember hearing this is the episode Venus uses her new attack but misses. That is kind of disappointing. I assume this happens in the manga but if not then they are making the sailor soldiers much more weak in crystal and that is disappointing.

  2. Interesting how in both the original anime and in Crystal Naru figures out around this arc that Usagi may be more than just your average junior high girl. I don’t think that was part of the manga, but it’s still an interesting development (and if it was part of the manga, I’ve forgotten because it’s been a few years).

BTW, was I the only one who, after Asanuma said he hadn’t seen Makoto since that night, thought to himself, “And he had wanted to see her every night afterwards?”

        • I’ve read your comment again and it turns out that I had read it very quick the first time. So I misunderstood it and I replied something that is hard to understand, indeed, for whom is not in my head.

But supposing your thought is right, i.e. that Asanuma may have wanted to see Makoto every night afterwards, then we can easily draw the conclusion that Asanuma is without a doubt hormonally disturbed because of Makoto’s charms.

          • “Hormonally disturbed’. I’ve never heard of being in love or attracted to someone described like that.

          • It was humor and irony. Sometimes I try to work my sense of humor in English, but it’s not my first language and I’m not fluent, so it seems my expression wasn’t adequate at all and my attempt was totally lame.

          • Haha, and here I was thinking you were making some crack about Asanuma being obsessed with Mamoru and Makoto both. XD
Though I think he looks up to both of them more than seeing them romantically…though his cute blush when mako kissed him makes me think he wouldn’t mind dating her!

  3. Am I the only one who noticed Zoisite had no words in this episode ? All the other Kings speak, except him. What happened to his voice actor ? Was he sick or on another work when the scene was dubbed ? That was a little disappointing.

Otherwise this is a good episode, I love how Venus’ new attack is animated. I also love Calaveras’ badassery. She is my second favorite sister after Berthier. Venus commands to love and light, while her nemesis Calaveras commands to the spirits of the dead (her name means “skull” in Spanish, and is also based upon the calaverite, a mineral that was discovered for the first time in Calaveras County, California), which are often related to darkness. I loved the fact that she had a whip in the classic anime, just like Venus has her chain. Calaveras commanding to the dead with a whip ? This would be an interesting idea… I always assumed that she was clothed like a lion or a tiger tamer…

  4. I love this episode but it seems a bit silly to me that the media would make such a huge deal about a channeler or that channeling would be as big as Umino made it out to be. Even as prevalent as pseudoscience is in society, I doubt a real news network would pay this much attention to channeling, unless it was like the Japanese version of Dr. Oz or something.

    • The 90s had a new age resurgence and fascination with metaphysical phenomina that we’ve seen in previous episodes in this arc – UFOs, spontaneous human combustion, dousing, divining, and channeling. Those things could have been hot topics for local television.
