There were a couple of big updates yesterday as the official Sailor Moon site was updated with a new Sailor Moon Cosmos poster and trailer. The poster includes Sailor Galaxia, Princess Kakyuu, the Sailor Starlights and even a quick look at Sailor Cosmos in the gem on the bottom right of the poster. The trailer includes a lot of scenes from later in the story. You can watch it on YouTube or embedded below.
To me this trailer feels like it could be the trailer for Sailor Moon Cosmos Part 2, the second of the two films. Sailor Moon Cosmos Part 1 will be released on June 9th with Part 2 planned for June 30th, Usagi’s birthday. I would have expected a trailer like this showing many scenes which are likely in the second film, to be released only after the first part hits theatres. There is no specific distinction in the trailer which makes it apply more to one part or another as it simply refers to the films as Sailor Moon Cosmos.
In this trailer we once again see the Sailor Starlights but also get a good look at Sailor Galaxia, Princess Kakyuu and Chibi Chibi. Chibiusa and Mamoru also feature briefly, which is how they will also be appearing in the films.

Nice poster. And I still hope we get an anime series reboot, and an anime shorts adapted from the manga. I’d like to see Rei and Minako’s School Battle.

This is because both parts are being marketed together as a single film rather than a pair of films like Eternal was. Consider it a result of lessons learned by Toei.
You failed to remark on the most interesting part of this trailer: the music.
Megumi was a surprising casting choice for Galaxia: her voice is of a much higher register than the other actors who have portrayed her on stage & screen.
She is by far the biggest name in this voice cast so far though, and I’m willing to bet that was an important factor in deciding who to cast. Looks like she is this movie’s Nanao/ Watanabe Naomi.
This arc is disappointing in the manga and the 90’s anime. This new one hopefully adds some extra scenes, but with a short run time I highly doubt it. The trailer itself is very captivating. I actually have to say I never was a fan of Galaxia, but this trailer has her looking so crazy that I am most interested to see how they portray her. Outside of this trailer I am most interested in seeing how they redo their sailor soldier attacks and transformation, but from what saw it seems disappointing and just a retrace.
I actually think these scenes will be in the first movie! A lot of them seem to be from the end of volume 11 / the beginning of volume 12 of the manga (Stars 5 & 6). And I think it’s possible that they end part 1 with this chapter. It would make a good ending, when they’re about to start their journey in space.
I know it will end up being less than perfect…but this trailer makes me so excited!
Biggest takeaway for me was seeing Pluto fighting Galaxia, which wasn’t in the manga. Hopefully we’ll get more expanded fight sequences like those instead of just seeing everyone getting OHKO’ed in pairs.

Wait wut no Momoiro Clover songs for this movie? I need something to replace the YAY YAY YAY YAY MOON FRAGMENT that’s permanently occupying the disk space in my brain
Not gonna cover any of the luxury retail collabs from this movie? Those are probably the only way Toei breaks even every time one of these comes out.
Zero interest in seeing this quite frankly. Stars was by far the worst arc in the Manga, and the adaptation is guaranteed to be just as slapdash and lacklustre. Just like Crystal and Eternal were.
Still atleast this shallow nostalgia dependant cashgrab is finally coming to an end.
Where’s all of the updates to this blog? News like all of Sailor Moon free on YouTube and the Jimmy Choo line of Sailor Moon 30th anniversary products I thought for sure would make it on here.
He might be busy or something, but Adam’s reasons for excluding certain news in the past have included “most fans outside of Japan wouldn’t be interested in those things anyway”.
Another way you can look at it is that this whole franchise is in decline, and so there is less and less reason to blog about it.
