Sailor Moon Eternal Part 2 - Poster

With the Japanese theatrical release of the first Sailor Moon Eternal film coming tomorrow, on January 8th, we have gotten a poster and trailer for Sailor Moon Eternal Part 2 which will be released on February 11th! While most of the recent teasers we’ve been getting lately have included a mix of new and old footage this trailer is packed with new stuff we hadn’t seen before. The first half focuses on Sailor Uranus, Neptune, Pluto and Saturn which suggests quite strongly that most of their part will be confined to this second film. Check out the trailer on YouTube which is embedded below.

There’s obviously a lot going on here and that story again seems to be closely following the events of the Sailor Moon manga, as the rest of Sailor Moon Crystal had and the first film also appears to be doing. We see super fast aging Hotaru becoming Sailor Saturn, Helios facing off against Nehelenia, the Amazoness Quartet, the Sailor Guardians in their princess dresses though only from the shoulders up, Chibi Moon kissing Helios back and a whole lot of very dramatic posing! I sure can’t wait to see both of these films!

Sailor Moon Eternal Part 2 - Eternal Sailor Moon

The trailer briefly shows us Eternal Sailor Moon though the poster itself also features this form of Sailor Moon quite prominently along with the Eternal forms of all of the other Sailor Guardians, something which we never saw in the original Sailor Moon anime.

Sailor Moon Eternal Part 2 - Haruka

Based on everything we’ve seen it seems that Sailor Moon Eternal Part 1 will tell the story of the Sailor Moon manga’s Act 39 to 43, ending with Minako hanging from a ledge and staring at Artemis, a clip we’ve seen in a Part 1 trailer, while Part 2 will tell the story of Acts 44 to 49, starting with us catching up with Haruka, Michiru, Setsuna and Hotaru, which we see scenes from in this trailer. I wouldn’t be surprised to see minor changes to allow for Human Artemis to appear briefly at the end of Part 1 or perhaps to see a brief glimpse of Hotaru and her three parents as a post credits type scene. I guess we’ll know soon!

Sailor Moon Eternal Part 2 - Rei

We still don’t know when these movies will be released outside of Japan! There has been strong evidence that they will be streamed on Netflix at some point, but no official announcement has been made.

Sailor Moon Eternal Part 2 - Hotaru and Sailor Saturn

What can we do but wait? Well you could get caught up with the series before the films are released by using the Amazon links below or streaming the episodes on Crunchyroll or Hulu in the US or on Tubi in Canada. Alternatively you can read the Dream Arc of the manga which these movies are based on. The Dream Arc is contained in volumes 7 and 8 which collect Acts 39 through 49.

  1. Sometimes I feel like this site is biased towards Rei! ;)

The colors are so fantastic! I’m so excited for these, let’s hope we don’t have long to wait for an official release in the rest of the world.

  2. Whooooah!!!! Absolutely thrilling, amazing stuff to see! Super Sailor Moon de-transforming with ribbons! Everybody’s Eternal forms! And a very nice way of Eternal Sailor Moon appearing! I hope in the next arc after these, Eternal Sailor Moon gets ribbons in her transformation scene. But man, this trailer had great animation!

    • I thought the detransformation looked sloppy… they only used 1 frame and it had the potential for a much better animation sequence sadly. Otherwise, it did have some redeeming moments. It looks like the movie is going to be a mixed bag, not on par with a franchise movie.

      • In the same vein, all the transformation sequences directed by Kon Chiako have been pretty inconsistent in terms of smoothness. My favorite: it’s like the production ran out of money and just gave up.on Venus’ transformation.

  3. This trailer was amazing! I’m so excited for the film now. Was pretty skeptical before, but they really pulled out all the stops for this trailer. Eternal Sailor Moon just looked perfect!

Does anyone know how the film is being released in Japan?

I know it was supposed to go to theaters, but with the coof, I thought maybe they would be releasing it on a Japanese streaming site? Not really interested in a dubbed version myself.

  4. well this was a plesant suprise to see today, it looks much more in line now with the remaining dreams arc of the manga… the outers eyes look a bit different then there season 3 counterparts prolly due to the change in animaters but it looks pretty, would feel weird to see this promo clip a full day before the 1st part drops in theaters but at least there finally apon us and hope they send these our way soon since its the era of the internet and im sure web rips will happen

  5. I like the part where the attack animations for the outer senshi are reused from the original anime. Gotta be lazy in the name of nostalgia to sell tickets.

  6. Already thinking of the Stars arc. I’m thinking since Stars is shorter than SuperS it’ll probably just be one single film.

    • The Stars Arc is actually longer since the films are based on the manga.
The Dream Arc (these two films) is 9 chapters and Stars is 10.

      • Also, I was thinking, since the revisions to the manga, they are actually both 11 chapters, so two films will probably be what Stars get unless it’s reverted back to episodes.|

That is if Toei will do Stars. Hopefully, these films do well enough to warrant completing the manga story arc.

        • If I remember correctly, the Stars volumes were slightly longer, and the chapters slightly shorter than the Dream Arc chapters.
Then there were all the side stories added to the Dream volumes like the Exam Battles and Chibi Usa’s Diary stuff padding them out, that could have something to do with them making it four volumes.

Other than that, I don’t have answers as to why one arc has more chapters but fewer volumes.
Either way, since the renewal versions of the manga were released, they were given a different chapter structure and now each has 11, up from 9 (Dream Arc) and 10 (Stars arc) before.

  7. I’m disappointed the films are actively airing in Japan right now but we still have no announcements for dates or streaming options to other countries.

  8. Be careful of the spoilers on Youtube, people have been posting clips in bad quality.
I had to watch Mercury’s transformation and attack…(and even in bad quality it was gorgeous!). But I’m going to try and avoid any non-hd footage from here on.
    Wish me strength of will!

    • Sailor Soldiers have strength and will. You are a Sailor Soldier, just like everyone here. So, you have strength and will. You simply haven’t discovered and explored them yet. ;)

(Right now my own strength and will are put to the test, because even in bad quality, I LOVE reading and watching spoilers XD . So now I have to try and refrain from finding the clips you mentioned, haha.)

  9. Some of the animation looks decent, some of it looks bad. I will say I cannot wait to see this second part. I am just upset that the original manga never had the outers get their own individual chapters for their own dreams. I hope they don’t rehash the same transformations and attacks, but seeing this we can tell that they will just use the same stock sequences. I was hoping for new sequences especially for the outers. I really wish they gave 5e movie a longer running time maybe 2 hours or so to give more expansion on the story.
