A new Sailor Moon official app and game are now available for Android and they’re terrible if you aren’t a Fan Club member living in Japan

Sailor Moon Official App - Bust a Move type game against Morga

Update: July 3rd 2016: Users can sign into the app to play the game if they have a Fan Club account that hasn’t completed registration. You can do this without living in Japan. Unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be a way to sign up for a new account at this time.

News has been posted on the Official Sailor Moon site about an Official Sailor Moon app. No this is not Sailor Drops, the addictive and frustrating puzzle game which everyone loves to hate. This app is basically just an interface to the official Sailor Moon site with a built in game which it seems you can only play if you’re a member of the Fan Club, which you can only do if you live in Japan. For now the app is only available on Android devices. An iOS version, for iPhone devices, will be available soon. Android users can download the app from the Google Play store.

I had to rummage through some old Gameboy games and NES controllers to find my old and busted Android phone which has a bad power button so I can’t take screenshots with it. That’s okay because there’s not much to see. It’s basically a wrapper around the site. I got an error at one point and it just said it couldn’t load sailormoon-official.com. There is a button at the bottom which I believe is the link to play the game but it prompts me to log in to the Fan Club which I am unable to do as I could never sign up since I don’t live in Japan. Check out this great photo I got of the app in action!

The Sailor Moon Official App is lame

All in all this app seems like a colossal waste of time if you aren’t part of the fan club. This may change in the future but for now I don’t think there’s any value in this. Have you been able to get the app to do anything but surf around the official site and Fan Club page?

  1. As much as I love Sailormoon, I really do not have a knack for puzzle games. I hope they will develop an adventure game or RPG.

  2. well, actually, god forbid if there would be any official info of SMC in english… this is really a shame that there is no official international ENGLISH site of SMC for fans worldwide… poor Toei

  3. You can play the game on the app by signing up on the fanclub website, clicking on the confirmation link in the confirmation e-mail the site sends you, and then logging in on the fanclub app. You won’t be able to access any other part of the app without finishing registration (which means you’ll need a Japanese address, phone number, etc), but you’ll be able to play the game.

  4. As said before, you can register on the Fan Club Page for an online account. You don’t have to complete registration. For those living outside of Japan could sign up and pay for membership through a deputy service. Sadly, if you wanted to complete registration, the deadline was on Usagi’s/Chibi Usa’s Birthday on June 30th.

I don’t know if you can still sign up online at this point. I signed up a few days before but was unable to buy membership because I’m currently going through a financially hard time.

As far as the Game itself, I think it’s beautiful. I’m a sucker for the classic art and adore that the classic art is used in the game. It’s easy to figure out. The higher the level, the harder it gets. You get so many hearts a day. When you use them up, you have to wait for them to build up again. Unless you level up before running out, then your hearts fill up again. I also love that you hear Moonlight Desenstu while playing or browsing the app.

Personally I would like to know if they allow people to purchase membership even after the supposed deadline. That would be nice.

    • I have an account but I can’t seem to sign up for a new one. I want to put up a post telling people how to play the game but if people can’t sign up for the FC it seems like it won’t help many people.

  5. Wahh you can’t sign up anymore it says new membership is closed! So not fair I wanna play! And the ios version only came out today!
