The first full episode from the Black Moon Clan story arc is now available to view in English on Hulu and Neon Alley. Act 15, Infiltration – Sailor Mars, introduces us to a bunch of character from the Black Moon Clan including Rubeus, Demande, Esmeraude, Saphir and the Ayakashi Sisters. This episode focuses mainly on the rivalry between Sailor Mars and Koan. Many new voice actors are showing up this week, who are all reprising their roles from the new English dub of the original Sailor Moon anime. Those actors are:
Claudia Lenz as Koan
Cindy Robinson as Berthier
Cassandra Lee Morris as Calaveras
Jessica Gee as Petz
Steve Cannon as Rubeus
Rena S. Mandel as Esmeraude
Greg Felden as Saphir
Matthew Mercer as Prince Demande
This week also gives us a better look at Chibiusa who first showed up at the end of Act 14. Amongst some background character we see a boy who looks an awful lot like Heero Yuy from Gundam Wing. What do you think?
I am waiting to watch this episode but at the same time I feel as though I will be disappointed. Crystal has been strong in terms of the story which is mostly following the manga but the pacing and development of it needs at least 26 to 30 something episodes. The series needs more episodes to develop the characters who so far I know nothing about. They need more than 13 episodes because although the main focus is I’m guessing Sailor Moon’s story, the other characters need time to develop. Even Sailor Moon could use a few episodes to develop as a character. Not only that but the enemies and story needs more development that for a animated series that sometimes wastes time reusing stock footage for the animations precious time is wasted with that which means they have that much less time to develop the characters and story. I wish each season was 26 to 30 something episodes not as long as the 90’s anime just because in that version a lot of the episodes just felt repetitive and filler. However, the 90’s anime also used some of those none filler episodes to develop the story and characters. Not all the 90’s filler episode was character development but some where. I hope the realize they need more episodes to really flesh out the story and characters or do yet another reboot at the end of telling the whole Crystal version.
However, most likely they only did the reboot to sell more products to people so I am not holding out much hope.
I totally agree with you. They rushed too much. They’re trying to match each episode with each manga chapter, making it an exact copy of the manga. What they should do is a bit like what Naruto and Bleach does, have anime only fillers.
Grammar error. You put, ‘character’ it’s, ‘characters’.
You too have many grammatical errors.
Foremost, use two separate clauses, so you need some form of punctuation between before “it’s.” A period would be appropriate, so that it reads, “You put ‘character.’ It’s ‘characters.'”
Second, you should be using double quotations around “character” and “characters.” Single quotation marks are usually relegated for quotes inside a quote. See above, where I quoted you.
Third, always make sure that your ending punctuation falls inside of the double quotations (see above).
Finally, please ensure you are using correct grammatical rules before attempting to chastise others.
Madd, those requests simply aren’t logistical with a faithful adaptation of the manga. Naoko’s story telling is such that the stakes are so high, everything is fast paced mile a minute, a sense of urgency. The events of some arcs occur over perhaps a week or so.
When there’s evil threatening the world the soldiers dont really have time to goof around and show their fun side. The anime managed to do this to some extent, but at the expense of epic, intense storytelling. These two adaptations are very different, and that’s a good thing.
When you watch this season in particular, there is a very specific reason why none of the soldiers except Minako have much development.
Imo, instead of drawing out fast paced storytelling they could adapt the short stories in between.
PGSM was able to pull it off successfully and it was just as dramatic and dark as the manga and in a lot of ways, PGSM improved on the manga.
Agreed. They did a great job of staying faithful while bringing something new. I wish the show had been successful enough to go on for 4 more seasons!
“They just went from holy to creepy!”
That wasn’t something I was expecting to hear today haha.
Anyone else wish Prince Demande’s English name was Diamond instead of Demand? It’s just, you have Rubeus, Safir, Esmerald…and Demand. :p
I never understood why N. Takeuchi had chosen to call him “Demand(e)” instead of “Diamond”. We all know that a lot of Sailor Moon’s characters are named after gemstones. So, “Demand(e)” means “Diamond”, like Rubeus means “Ruby”, though Rubeus is a real name, actually. Demande is maybe the way the Japanese understand and transcribe the word “diamond”.
What is really annoying with “Demand(e)”, is that it’s actually a verb and a noun in both English and French. But since our dear Demande he is a prince, he has a right to demand things from his fellow companions :p .
In the classic anime’s French dubbing, “Prince Demande” has always been “Prince Diamant” (“Prince Diamond”).
There used to be a site that was devoted to dissecting the etymology of all the Sailor Moon names and the history behind them but I don’t think the site exists anymore.
I’ve made a little search and I’ve found a link, is it the site you had in mind ?
Ah that’s the site! It was always a very interesting read.
From their site, it looks unlikely Demand is meant to be a variation of Diamond but when you think about it, Demand’s name does fit his personality, as he has a very controlling and demanding personality.
I enjoyed that site a lot but there are a few of the conclusions that I disagreed with. I remember arguing some of them on Genvid years ago!
Anyone else notice that Luna talked to Usagi and Mamoru while Mamoru was holding Chibiusa? Does she just selectively play the ordinary house cat with strangers? And why pretend to be a ventriloquist’s cat later on with Mamoru? Chibiusa already heard her talk! That makes no sense!
Also, I get that all the girls have lipstick or it looks like they have lipstick (for that naturally pink look) and that’s a stylistic choice on the part of the animators, but why does Chibiusa also look like she put on some her mouth? She may be centuries old, but she still looks like she’s 8 or 9, she’s way too young to be wearing any sort of make-up.
Other than that, fine episode, even if we never find out why Koan is so evil or whatever.
I really like it that these obnoxious sisters died. Anyway, it’s just me.
