Sailor Moon Cosmos - Sailor Starlights reveal trailer - Seiya and Usagi

A new trailer for the Sailor Moon Cosmos films has been released and this one includes the Sailor Starlights! We also have photos and names of the voice actors who will be portraying them and release dates for both parts of the films in June. In the trailer we see Seiya, Yaten and Taiki also known as the idol group The Three Lights as well as their Sailor Guardian counterparts The Sailor Starlights! You can watch the trailer on YouTube or embedded below.

We already knew that the Sailor Moon Cosmos films cover the Stars arc of the Sailor Moon manga in which the Sailor Starlights feature heavily so seeing them isn’t a surprise but it is nice to finally see them. They sure do look great! We have a few clips of Seiya and Usagi on a rooftop, many clips of the Three Lights as their civilian identities and a bit of transformation sequences and attacks for the Sailor Starlights. There’s also a bit of music, something that is likely to be an important part of the film as the Three Lights are an idol group who perform many songs. Manga is not a medium which lends itself to music but the original Sailor Moon anime had a lot of Three Lights songs, and these films surely will as well!

  1. No star serious laser smh

Production values and animation quality appear to be similar to what Eternal had, which at this point is probably the best we can hope for.

In terms of music, I’m most looking forward to what song Momokuro will be performing for this movie, but it looks all the songs from the nineties anime that Naoko wrote the lyrics for will be in this as well. Gotta milk that nostalgia since this is the finale!

  2. 3 things I hope for:
    1. I hope Usagi will be in Rei’s arms, rather than Mamoru’s arms.
    2. I hope there’ll be another anime series, as well as an anime series for the shorties.
    3. I hope they don’t use honorific dialogue for the English dub.

    • The delays for the last film were mostly related to the pandemic I believe. This excuse doesn’t apply to the many delays for the streaming series so there may still be issues, but the June dates are what we are expecting for now.

      • I think Rami is referring to the delay between theatrical release and streaming release. Late fall/winter sounds about right, assuming Netflix has already acquired streaming rights.

  3. If both parts are being released in the same month, then I think we can expect just one long marathon of press junkets in April/May instead of two like for the last movie.

Really looking forward to those interviews, especially with the director and Kakyuu/Galaxia seiyuus. Hope Toei spends a bit more on its advertising budget this time, and not just cheap trinket collabs with fast food chains.

  4. It is finally ending. It took about 10 years? The designs are okay. I remember the poster for the original Eternal film gave me a lot of hope. I wish they would make each character’s eye design more unique instead of just color changes. I never cared for the Star lights, but at least it looks like they might change up some of those attack sequences, but the transformation looks as bad as the Moon Crisis Chibimoon and Sailor Moon transformation in Eternal. Sometimes if you cannot make it better you should just do something different and here looks like they did not try. I would have preferred to see characters we did not see the 90’s anime. The stars manga story could use more work, but I doubt any changes will be made. The last two arcs are disappointing because they should have continued and finished as a TV series. I don’t know it would have made any difference, but at least they would have more time to expand on the story a little.

  5. I am really excited for this movie to be released. I am looking forward to seeing how Seiya and Usagi interact in this movie. In the 90’s anime, it is told that Seiya develops feelings for Usagi, so I am hoping that this movie will show that as well as Usagi and Mamoru’s wedding just like in the manga!
