The cast for the Sailor Moon Prism On Ice show includes Anza, Evgenia Medvedeva, Kurt Browning and many more world class figure skaters

Sailor Moon Prism on Ice - Evgenia Medvedeva as Sailor Moon

The Sailor Moon official site has posted a lot of details about the upcoming Sailor Moon Prism On Ice show which was announced last summer. The event will be taking place June 5th to the 7th at the KOSÉ Shin Yokohama Skate Center in Tokyo. We had previously learned that Evgenia Medvedeva, a Russian figure skater and Olympic medalist, was going to be in the show. We now have confirmation that she will be playing Sailor Moon herself! An article at Oricon includes photos of Evgenia Medvedeva in her Sailor Moon costume! The rest of the cast includes Sailor Mercury, Mars, Jupiter and Venus as well as Tuxedo Mask. The villains are the Dark Kingdom’s Queen Bery, Jadeite, Nephrite, Zoisite and Kunzite. All of the above mentioned characters will be portrayed by figure skaters, most of whom are world class competitive skaters, from around the world.

Anza

Also appearing in the musical is Anza as Queen Serenity. Anza is best known to Sailor Moon fans as the first to play Sailor Moon in a Sailor Moon musical. She continued in this role for many years. The other special guest, who’s role is not mentioned, is Kurt Browning. He is a World Champion figure skater who was a well known sports celebrity here in Canada in the 1990s.

The show will also have a voice cast which includes the main cast from Sailor Moon Crystal. Only the Sailor Guardians currently have voice actors listed at this time. This could mean that the show will mainly feature those characters in spoken roles or perhaps the others will be announced at a later time. The details on the site list them as being the voice actors from the Sailor Moon Eternal films. As the Dark Kingdom specific characters will not be in the Sailor Moon Eternal films, they may not have been mentioned for this reason. It may also prove more complicated in booking voice talent from a previous season when there hadn’t been an expectation for them to be reprising their roles in the future.

Music will be by Akiko Kosaka, who has been involved with music in the original Sailor Moon anime, the Sailor Moon Musicals and Sailor Moon Crystal.

    • I agree. They seem to have gone out of their way to get a cast from around the world so it would probably do quite well in a number of markets. There would probably need to be some effort to adapt the voiceover portion though. I don’t imagine it would be terribly difficult to get Viz to dub a few hours of dialog with the existing Sailor Moon Crystal voice cast given their continued commitment to the franchise.

  1. Wow, all of this sounds amazing! This seems to be a great concept. Especially the fact that they chose skaters from all over the world. I might be wrong, but won’t it be the first time that some Sailor Moon characters will be embodied officially by non Japanese people? I’m looking forward to hearing more news! Let’s hope we’ll get a worldwide tour. I’ve never been a fan of ice skating, but would definitely take a ticket to see this show.

As for the Four Kings, aren’t they supposed to be in one the Sailor Moon Eternal films? If Toei sticks to the manga (and I hope they will!), their appearance in Eternal should only last for a few seconds, though. I agree, however, that it doesn’t say anything at all about the Kings’ voice cast for Prism On Ice.

(On a side note: what tense should I use after “won’t it be the first time that…”? I chose the future “will be embodied”, but is it correct? It’s an intriguing question to me, so any help to solve it is very welcome!)

    • Alissa Czisny, who will play Sailor Jupiter, is only 1.64 m tall. She is the second tallest, behind Becky Bereswill, who is 1.67 m tall, and who will play Sailor Venus. That’s but a small detail but my mind can’t really get along very well with this fact >_< .

    • Aurélia, that’s a tricky sentence and even most native speakers would have a hard time figuring out the grammatically-correct way to say it. LOL I don’t think most native speakers would think the way you wrote it was incorrect though. I think “won’t it be the first time that some Sailor Moon characters have been embodied officially by non Japanese people” is more correct, but TBH I’m not sure.

      • Nobody, thank you so much for answering my question!!! It helps me a lot. Yes, you’re right, that sentence structure is tricky, and I tried to write my sentence differently, but couldn’t find some other words, so I said to myself: “Wrong or not, let’s go with this one. Then I’ll ask my fellow friends their thoughts about it.”
In French, that structure with two futures is perfectly correct, but I wasn’t sure wether this would be the same syntax in English or not. But I think I’ll stick to your suggestion and use the structure with both future and present perfect from now on, also because I found out that other people had given the same advice as you on some forums ;) . Again, thank you!

  2. This looks fantastic.
For some reason, seeing an international cast makes me excited.
While the Japanese casts are always great, this cast is just awesome in its own way, and it makes me happy for Evgenia to get such recognition! She must be so proud!

I hope this will lead to more international shows where we could even have an English speaking voice cast do a musical show at one point, officially.

    • Oh, come on! You are the Cheshire Cat. You can disappear whenever you want, and appear wherever you want. So of course, you CAN attend this show, and you won’t even have to pay.

      • Good gracious! I was so mad that I forgot my own powers! *Disappears but leaves his toothy grin for a second before it also vanishes.*

          • Oh, please, no thanks. It’s not because they call me “Sleeping Beauty” that you have to stare *dreamily* at me! I don’t want to dream when I’m asleep, ’cause I don’t want to descend into Wonderland at all. Brrr, the idea of meeting Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, the Mad Hatter, and all the others… it gives me goosebumps. My name’s Aurora, not Alice! Take her with you, not me please. I’m still waiting for my Prince and I have to be there when he comes… not elsewhere, not in your open-air giant lunatic asylum from where not even the lesser light of hope can emerge!

          • I never played this game actually, but I was always fascinated by its imagery. I think I’m too sensitive to be able to even try it once.

          • Oh, it’s certainly not family-friendly. It’s quite dark, yeah. Like, as I recall, some of the environments in the game have gigantic worms that trickle and writhe. lol And that’s just the scenery.
