Here are some photos of this year’s Miss Universe Japan, Yuumi Kato, dressed as Sailor Moon! This is Miss Universe Japan’s National Costume. Yuumi Kato’s Instagram page shows us two photos of this costume which she will be wearing at the Miss Universe National Costume competition which takes place on December 11th, about a week before the actual Miss Universe competition which will take place on December 17th. I’m not an expert on this pageant so I’m not sure if the National Costume is something we will also be seeing at the actual competition.

Yuumi Kato unveiled this outfit at a press event where she dramatically threw off a kimono to expose it! You can watch a clip of this below.

Though the Miss Universe competition is taking place on the morning of December 17th due to the magic of time zones it will be televised on Fox December 16 at 7pm eastern time. Do you plan on watching it? What to you think of the costume?

We’re only a couple of weeks away from a great convention featuring many Sailor Moon guests in Toronto. After two successful years as the Toronto Sailor Moon Celebration this event is being rebranded as the Pretty Heroes convention which will take place the weekend of June 16th and 17th. While this new convention, broader in scope, will still include all things Sailor Moon it will also cover other things which fall under the umbrella of Pretty Heroes. Naturally many Sailor Moon fans will also be interested in many other things which are covered by this convention and so I would suggest you check out the convention’s web site for all of the details. As in the past this convention will be taking place at the Ontario Science Center in Toronto.

The convention will feature a ton of Sailor Moon related voice actors which includes, from the original English dub of Sailor Moon, Stephanie Morgenstern, the voice of Sailor Venus, Vincent Corazza, the 3rd voice of Tuxedo Mask and the voice of Alan the alien, Sabrina Grdevich, the voice of Ann the alien as well as the original voice of Sailor Pluto, and Barbara Radecki, the voice of Sailor Neptune. Also from Viz’s new dub of Sailor Moon and Sailor Moon Crystal is Lauren Landa, the voice of Sailor Neptune, and Amanda Miller, the voice of Sailor Jupiter. There may be more guests announced as the convention comes up so keep an eye out on the guest list for the latest.

I had a great time at the first Toronto Sailor Moon Celebration a couple of years ago but unfortunately I could not attend last year and won’t be able to make the trip to Toronto again this year. Will any of you be attending?

Two time World champion Russian figure skater Evegnia Medvedeva has given us another great Sailor Moon themed performance! She originally did a Sailor Moon themed routine last year and she’s updated it to reflect many of the events of the first episode of Sailor Moon. This was done this past weekend at the 2017 ISU World Team Trophy in Tokyo. A fitting location for a Sailor Moon themed performance! The soundtrack used for her piece includes a number of audio clips from the first episode as Usagi sleeps in, rushes off to school, meets Luna and ultimately transforms into Sailor Moon. As with the last routine it includes the original version of Moonlight Densetsu by DALI. You can watch the full clip below.

She did quite well at the competition setting records for Short Program, Free Skate and Total Score. Evegnia Medvedeva is a huge anime and Sailor Moon fan as we continue to see with her fun performances.

Every Halloween we see people dressing up as our favourite Sailor Moon characters to celebrate and this year was no different. This included Rowan Blanchard, who plays Riley Matthews in the Girl Meets World TV series. She dressed up as Sailor Moon last week! Her costume included makeup to make it look like she had massive anime eyes. A photo of her in costume was posted to her Instagram account along with some lyrics from the English Sailor Moon theme song.

I know I’m a bit late to be posting about Halloween but I don’t exactly have my finger on the pulse of every Disney Channel series out there. MTV has posted a video to their Facebook page which has Iggy Azalea sharing a story about her love of Sailor Moon. She explains that as children her and her sister, Emerald Kelly, used to watch Sailor Moon. One day they dipped their hands in house paint to have long white gloves like Sailor Guardians. Choas ensued and it seems their father wasn’t terribly happy about the mess they made in the yard. The video, seen below, includes some animated footage of Iggy Azalea as a Sailor Guardian. While Iggy is shown as Sailor Moon her younger sister Emerald is presented as Chibiusa. Watch the full video below.

Toronto Sailor Moon fans are in for a great show tonight as Nerdgasm… Sailor Moon Edition comes to the Wayla Bar and Lounge at 996 Queen Street East. This event is billed as a dance party but is also a drag show starring Princess Juice Boxx (Juice Boxx), Sailor Bel Bel (Baby Bel Bel) and Evil Queen Bobo (Scarlett BoBo). The party starts at 10pm Saturday September 24th. Tonight!

The sequel to the sequel to Space Jam is out and it features Sailor Moon! This fan film by Ryan Higa stars Jeremy Lin of the NBA basketball team the Brooklyn Nets. Amongst the anime stars are Goku, Naruto, Yu-Gi-Oh and of course Sailor Moon. As with the original Space Jam the story has animated characters, this time from anime, recruiting a professional basketball player to help them. Sailor Moon plays on the AnimeNiacs team, which is the latest incarnation of the Tune Squad. Watch the full video on YouTube embedded below.

Will any of you be attending events in your city?

Russian World Champion figure skater Evgenia Medvedeva is a huge Sailor Moon fan. She shows us this by performing a Sailor Moon inspired skating routing in costume to the music of Moonlight Densetsu, the opening theme of the original Sailor Moon anime. Naoko Takeuchi, the creator of Sailor Moon, was so impressed by this routine that she met with Evgenia Medvedeva after a recent performance and gave her a signed Sailor Moon sketch. Watch a video which features some clips of that performance below.

To see just how much of an anime fan Evgenia really is check out her Instagram and Twitter feeds. It’s nice to see younger fans who weren’t around when the original Sailor Moon anime was out who are still getting into this great series.

The second Toronto Sailor Moon Celebration will be taking place next month, on July 9th, at the Ontario Science Center. This year has some great guests in store yet again. Voice actors Vince Corazza, the voice of Alan Granger and the third voice of Tuxedo Mask, will be there. Tony Daniels, the voice of Jadeite, will be making his second appearance at the convention. Jennifer Cihi, who provided the vocals for many songs in the original English dub of Sailor Moon, will be there to perform a concert. Fan Fiction The Show, who have previously done comedy shows in Toronto about Sailor Moon and other fandoms, will be putting on a live comedy performance at the convention.

There will also be a lot of Cosplay guests including Yume and Kitsurie from Cosmeko, Jelly Cosplay, and Ammie Cosplay. I met Cosmeko at Unplugged Expo a couple of years ago and they had some great tips for making Sailor Moon costumes and accessories.

I had a great time at the Toronto Sailor Moon Celebration last year and even had a chance to participate in a few of the panels. Unfortunately I won’t be able to make the trip to Toronto this year.

Former Sailor Moon Singer, Former Sailor Moon Voice Actors, and Masters Level Cosplayers
to Appear at Toronto Sailor Moon Celebration

Toronto, Ontario – June 6, 2016 – Singer Jennifer Cihi; voice actors Tony Daniels and Vince Corazza; cosplayers Yume, Kitsurie, Jelly Cosplay, and Ammie Cosplay to participate in the Toronto Sailor Moon Celebration on Saturday, July 9th, 2016 at the Ontario Science Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. This event is affiliated with International Sailor Moon Day and sponsored by Moon Chase.

Jennifer Cihi has been performing since she was a young girl growing up in California. At the age of 12, she began her professional career when she was cast in the role of Pepper in the 1978 Broadway National Tour of Annie. As a young adult, Jennifer lived and worked in Japan for two years performing at Tokyo Disney. Ironically, after moving back to Los Angeles, she was cast as the singing voice of Sailor Moon. She went on to star in the Nickelodeon television show Roundhouse and has lent her voice to many national jingles, including the now famed Hot Pockets commercials. Just over a decade ago, Jennifer said goodbye to Hollywood and moved to Nashville where her singing career continued to thrive. Now, she attends comic cons all over the US, Canada, and Europe and is excited to appear in Toronto. She will be performing a live concert that will include songs from Sailor Moon.

Tony Daniels was the original voice of Jedite and Wiseman in the DiC dub of Sailor Moon as well as various ancillary characters in the DiC and Cloverway dubs of Sailor Moon. He has voiced many characters including Gambit in X-Men: The Animated Series; Maxum Brain in Sidekick; Boris Balkov, Dunga, and Rick Anderson in Beyblade; and Hawkeye in Avengers: United They Stand. Tony’s voice talents also include impressions and the ability to mimic a variety of accents.

Vince Corazza played Darien Shields/Tuxedo Mask as well as the alien Alan Granger in the DiC and Cloverway dubs of Sailor Moon. His voice has been in thousands of commercials and he has been a signature voice for many major networks. Currently he is the promo voice of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on CBS and you can hear him daily as the voice of Dunkin’ Donuts. Vince has played roles in numerous animated TV shows, including Alden Jones on Braceface, Sam Sparks in Rescue Heroes, and Shickadance in Ace Ventura – Pet Detective. He’s also been part of various successful video game franchises including Carlos Oliveira in Resident Evil 3, Zexion in Kingdom Hearts, and The Marquis De Lafayette in Assassins Creed III. His Narration credits are numerous, namely James Cameron’s Last Mysteries of the Titanic, and most of the DVD extras for Dreamworks animated features from Bee Movie to Megamind to Shrek, Kung-Fu Panda, and Madagascar.

Yume has been cosplaying since 2005 and Kitsurie since 2008. They started doing duo cosplays in 2012. Yume loves the sewing aspect of cosplay making, while Kitsurie enjoys prop making. Both are Sailor Moon fans and have made two different sailor fukus each. Yume has also made a Serenity dress.

Jelly Cosplay is a master level cosplayer who found her passion of cosplay in 2001. She has crafted over 70 cosplays, including Sailor Mercury, Queen Beryl, and NoFlutter’s version of Sailor Venus. She brandishes several awards under her belt.
Ammie Cosplay started sewing well over a decade ago and has been actively making Sailor Moon costumes for 10 years. As a masters level cosplayer she strives to teach other cosplayers, both novice and masters, tricks of the trade and believes through her own trial and error in the art of costume making, she would like to share the wealth of knowledge she has obtained in the hobby. She has been featured in magazines and books around the world regarding her costumes.
