The two latest episodes of Sailor Moon R have been added to Hulu and Neon Alley. This week we have episodes 83 and 84 which take place entirely in 30th century Crystal Tokyo! It takes a long time for the story to finally make it to the future but here we are. A lot of stuff that we mostly already figured gets revealed.

Episode 83, The Shocking Future: Demande’s Dark Ambition, introduces us to a world we have previously only seen in dreams and flashbacks. All of the girls assumed it couldn’t really be that bad when they saw this destroyed city in Chibiusa’s mind but this was obviously spot on. Things are very bad. The gang runs into a familiar face, the holographic projection of King Endymion who is the future version of Mamoru. His voice, which sounds nearly identical to Mamoru’s, sounds familiar! Does Toru Furuya as King Endymion sound that much different than Toru Furuya as Mamoru? Anyway, his voice is the one from the dreams that foretold a great calamity if Mamoru didn’t dump Usagi. Just what was the reason for this silly fabricated friction between characters which didn’t really last? Oh he just wanted to test their relationship to make sure it was strong. Sorry but I just don’t see the logic of this and there is no indication that it helped at all. It didn’t change the future, so it seems like it was meant to strengthen their relationship in the past so that… Tuxedo Mask didn’t let Prince Demande kiss Usagi? Well I’m getting ahead with myself. We learn all of the things we kind of already knew. Usagi is Neo Queen Serenity, oh wow! Chibiusa is Usagi and Mamoru’s daughter. Who knew? This surprises everyone and even makes Rei a little mad. Maybe Rei would be the queen of Crystal Tokyo if Usagi hadn’t stolen her boyfriend last season! In a somewhat rushed end of the episode Usagi is kidnapped by Prince Demande who dresses her up a bit like Neo Queen Serenity and tries to use his hypnotic powers to kiss her without consent. It’s a very uncomfortable scene that deals with a pretty serious issue, but Tuxedo Mask comes in to save the day.

Episode 84, Wiseman’s Evil Hand: Chibi-Usa Disappears, has Chibiusa running off while the gang deals with Esmeraude. Esmeraude has been doing a pretty crappy job as villain but it’s okay, she can do more good as a dragon! This way she doesn’t need to be directly killed by the Sailor Guardians. Instead a dragon is killed who they didn’t really know was her. Prince Demande who was trying to sexually assault Usagi in the last episode seems only somewhat put off by Esmeraude’s death, tragically not returning her affections. Meanwhile Chibiusa is traumatized and runs off … to the park. In the past (our present) when Chibiusa runs away she always finds herself in the park. It’s not really clear why this is. But Chibiusa is not in some foreign city. She’s simply in another time. The park may be very familiar to her as it may be the same place she always run to, just from another time. Many landmarks from the future park seem to indicate that it is indeed the same once we often see in the past. Wiseman proceeds to mess with her memory of things. She remembers looking at the Silver Crystal, but not what happened to it. Her views of her family and friends is corrupted to make her think they are all against her. In the final moments of the episode we hear a laugh which sounds somewhat like that of Chibiusa but a bit different. We will see who this is in the next episode.

A bunch of Japanese Sailor Moon voice actors will be appearing at Animazement May 23rd to the 25th at the Raleigh Convention Center in North Carolina. The convention will feature Keiko Han, the voice of Luna and Queen Beryl, Toru Furuya, the voice of Tuxedo Mask, and Toshi Furukawa, the voice of Hawk’s Eye.

Toru Furuya was originally mentioned as reprising his role of Tuxedo Mask in the new Sailor Moon anime Sailor Moon Crystal which will begin airing July 5th. Though his former costar Kotono Mitsuishi is confirmed as playing Usagi in the series we have not gotten that same confirmation from Toru Furuya. Let’s hope that someone asks about his involvement in the series at the convention.

Toru Furuya, the original Japanese voice of Tuxedo Mask from the Sailor Moon anime, will be making an appearance at the Anime Revolution anime convention in Vancouver August 16th to the 18th 2013.

Toru Furuya not only provided the voice of Tuxedo Mask as well as many other anime characters but he is also slated to reprise his role in the new Sailor Moon anime which was originally scheduled to be released this summer. He will be the guest of honour at the Anime Revolution convention, which last year played host to a number of Sailor Moon voice actors from the English dub in their celebration of the 20th Anniversary.

Although there has still been no official announcement confirming this there is growing evidence that there could be a delay in the release of the 2013 Sailor Moon anime which was originally meant to be released this summer. The main sources for this are a tweet from Fumio Osano, the Sailor Moon manga’s editor, word from Toru Furuya, the voice of Tuxedo Mask, and word from a European distributor for Sailor Moon. Once again there is currently no official confirmation of a delay, but as there is growing evidence that this could be happening we are presenting you with all of the evidence that exists at this time and what those sources are so that you can make your own informed opinion as to what this means.

The first indication came last month with this tweet from Fumio Osano, @osabu8 on Twitter. In response to a user asking if the Sailor Moon anime would be released in June/July he replied simply “not decided.delaying”. Fumio Osano is the Sailor Moon manga’s editor. He was present at the announcement of the new anime series and is the only official voice who’s been communicating anything about the new show to the public in these past few months. We did not report on this at the time because this could be interpreted in many ways and is not any kind of official announcement of a delay. It could mean it hasn’t been decided and there is a delay, that it hasn’t been decided whether or not there will be a delay or many other things. Fumio Osano is a Japanese speaker who makes a good attempt to communicate with fans in English but his message is not always clear.

Yesterday some further news came in when twitter user @Tetho_mig sent this tweet stating that Toru Furuya, the voice of Tuxedo Mask in the original Sailor Moon anime, mentioned that the show would not be airing this summer. The insinuation at the 20th Anniversary event where the new anime was announced was that Toru Furuya would voice Tuxedo Mask in the new anime as well, so he would conceivably have information about how it is coming along. The tweet is French and translates to “Furuya confirms that the new Sailor Moon anime will not be broadcast this summer.” This was learned at the Cartoonist convention in Nice, France that took place this weekend. The convention featured Toru Furuya as well as Sailor Moon animators Kazuko Tadano and Hiromi Matsushita, who had characters in the Sailor Moon anime based on themselves.

Earlier this week poster _Alexander_ at the Sailor Moon forums mentioned having communicated with Maria Örnryd, the head of TV sales and DVD rights for Plus Licens, a distributor for Toei in Europe. She mentioned that the anime would not air this summer but is currently estimated to air in Winter 2014.

For now the only official word we’ve gotten is from last summer and that was that the new show would be airing this summer. We are only one month into spring right now. Summer won’t begin until June 21st and will not end until September 21st, leaving us more than enough time to actually get this show airing during the summer as was originally planned. We’ll let you know right away as soon as there is any formal confirmation of any news, including a delay or specific release date. Here’s hoping we don’t have to start referring to it as the 2014 Sailor Moon anime!

Last Friday we were happy to share with you the news of the new Sailor Moon anime series set to air in the summer of 2013. This news was announced in a 20th anniversary live show which has now been translated by the Sailor Moon fan subbing web site Miss Dream. We’ve included the video below. Here are the important facts about the new show! It will be an all new anime series starting in 2013. Kotono Mitsuishi and Toru Furuya will be reprising their roles as Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask. Momoiro Clover Z will be doing the theme song but unlike we mentioned in our previous news item it does not seem that the song they performed during this event will be the theme song. After the video we’ll be sharing more thoughts on the video, what we saw and why Toru Furaya is a dirty, dirty liar!

A big thanks to the staff at Miss Dream for putting this together. They have also expressed their intentions to fan sub the series as it airs.

With over an hour and a half there’s a lot to take in from this video. Aside from the announcement of the new series there’s actually quite a bit here for fans to enjoy. Kotono Mitsuishi, Toru Furuya and Fumio Osano share some great insight into the early days of the manga and anime.

The announcer for the show was great. He was clearly a fan of the show, asked relevant questions and best of all was completely hostile to his audience. They couldn’t have this event open to the public so it was only press on site and none of them cared at all for Sailor Moon, and the announcer constantly reminded us of how lame they were for not being more excited.

Kotono Mitsuishi starts off the show with a bang by flashing Sailor Moon’s panties! The host goes on to talk about how important panty shots are. Kotono also shares some great stories about her first experiences with voice over work. She was apparently very intimidated by working alongside so many veteran voice actors. We also learn about Peach Hips, the band which was formed by the voice actors for the Sailor Team. As she tells us, they weren’t allowed to use any Sailor Moon names in promoting themselves, but they still did all right! Finally we get some nice insight into the character of Misato from Evangelion. Not only did Kotono Mitsuishi think of an older Usagi when doing the voice, but we also learn that once she was cast some of Usagi’s look was incorporated into the character’s design, such as her bangs which are split in the middle.

Toru Furuya came in looking stylish. He commented on his Sailor Moon t-shirt saying it was a custom design. Oh really? Interesting that the French lady that latter appears in this event has the exact same shirt!

Finally we have Fumio Osano, Naoko Takeuchi’s editor. Clearly this is a chair which would have been meant for Naoko herself, who does not appear for reasons I’ll get into a bit later. He is clearly not a public speaker like the other entertainers on the stage are, and is visibly nervous in all he does. It is really great to see him in this event though, as this man has so much inside knowledge about what went on in the early days of the manga that no one else but Naoko would be able to share with us. He shares some interesting stories about how he was convinced that the show would be a failure, and that it was the Moon Stick toy which seems to have ultimately saved it. He also has some harsh words for Hong Kong bootleggers and their counterfeit merchandise!

The show finally goes to France where the band Momoiro Clover Z are performing what is without a doubt the worst rendition of Moonlight Densetsu, the Japanese Sailor Moon theme, that I have heard in my entire life. Clearly this is a band that is meant to be auto tuned, or at least meant to sing their own songs. When communication between the Japanese and French feeds takes place there is a jarring 4 second delay. The actual announcement of the new show is made by a Japanese girl to a room full of French speaking people who only understand the implications when the news is translated for them. Not the most epic way to announce this to the world, but regardless of how it was delivered fans across the globe all shared in what one fan referred to as a moongasm.

The French woman’s words aren’t subtitled, which is interesting since her and the Japanese woman on stage are usually not saying the same thing at all, but ultimately she doesn’t say much of consequence.

These girls acted like they were really into Sailor Moon. I remind you that this is the 20th anniversary event and when they rattle off their ages, there is a 16 year old, three 17 year olds and a 19 year old. The 16 year old goes on to say that she always wanted to be just like Usagi! That’s great, even though the show was off the air when she was a one year old…

We were at first under the impression that one of the songs they performed later was the theme song but this does not seem to be the case. They clearly pretend to not know they would be asked to perform more songs and then go into a fully choreographed act.

Back in Japan we have our panel weigh in with their thoughts as Kotono Mitsuishi and Toru Furuya share their excitement at being involved in the show, which tells us they will in fact be reprising their roles. Who else will return is not clear. At this point the only news we know of is contained in this video.

To close to event Fumio Osano brings out a letter from Naoko Takeuchi, the author of the Sailor Moon manga, and asks Kotono Mitsuishi to read it. This is all very epic and emotional, but fans wonder why Naoko isn’t here herself for such an important occasional. Naoko Takeuchi is a brilliant woman, who’s mind gave us an amazing story with fantastic characters, but she is not one for public appearances. In an interview on the first season laser discs she appears very nervous, clinging to a disguise pen toy, speaking timidly. She pretty much never does public appearances, and that’s just something fans have had to come to accept. How much involvement will she have with this new show? It’s not really clear. She didn’t have a ton of involvement in the original anime but did have a bit more on the live action series, but without ever doing public appearances any involvement will likely not be terribly well publicized.

Without a doubt if there is any new information about this show it will be shared with you as we get it.

This morning at the special event for the Sailor Moon 20th anniversary it was announced that there would be a new Sailor Moon anime coming next summer! Kotono Mitsuishi (voice of Sailor Moon) and Toru Furuya (voice of Tuxedo Mask) will be reprising their roles. The theme song “Z Otome Shinsou” (Z Girls War) will be sung by the band Momoiro Clover Z and was performed at this morning’s event.

The Sailor Moon anime turned 20 on March 7th of this year and to celebrate this milestone Nico Nico will be holding a live event which will include announcement of a “special surprise project” . Attending from Japan will be Sailor Moon anime voice actors Kotono Mitsuishi (voice of Sailor Moon) and Toru Furuya (voice of Tuxedo Mask) as well as Fumio Osano, the editor for many of Naoko Takeuchi’s manga who she refers to as “Osa-P” in liner notes. Also appearing from France will be the music group Momoiro Clover Z who’s colourful look is very reminiscent of the Sailor Team.

The event will take place on Friday July 6th at 7:30pm local Japanese time, 6:30am Eastern Standard Time. Though the event will be streamed online it would appear a paid membership is needed. Speculation is rampant over what the special announcement will be. Maybe it will be something completely lame and maybe it will be something completely amazing like a new anime series or new manga stories. We’ll know in about a week and once we do we’ll be sure to share.
