When they finally get around to dubbing this season of Sailor Moon, who will play Fish Eye? It has to be someone who can pass as an effeminate male and a woman at the same time without sounding goofy or ridiculous. Who has the creds to do that, do you think?

The original anime’s portrayal of gay men seems a bit like a double standard to me. On the one hand, the show seems to have a positive portrayal of lesbians with Sailor Uranus and Neptune. On the other hand, it seems like almost all the openly gay men in the show are stereotyped villains like Zoisite and Fisheye. The only positive gay men portrayed in the show are this fashion designer couple. Even with these men, they’re still falling back on the whole “all gay men are fabulous fashion designers” stereotype. Although I guess the show was convincing enough to Cloverway to make them brothers, the show was still never explicitly open about their sexuality, leaving it up to the imagination of the audience to figure it out. There also seems to be a bit of a homophobic double standard with the original English dub in that the dub was apparently so repelled by the presence of homosexuality they tried horribly to cover it up yet they were perfectly ok with leaving in this episode where Mina goes around cheating. So according to Cloverway, being gay is too shameful to show on a kid’s show but having one of the main heroines cheating on two guys at once and bragging about it is a perfectly fine role model for kids?
