I myself am what we fans of the anime Sailor Moon or Sailor Senshi(scouts) call a moonie. Its not right to take our term of scouts and copyright it to just one group is very wrong. Scouts should be willing to share the word.

oh no way is this going to happen they are going to Scouts because who cares what these people are saying. the sailor moon anime has been using the term scouts forever and that’s not going to change

My hunny suprised me with this shirt last Friday.I’m a girl scout leader for the Daiseis so it was perfect! (although none of them got the reference!)

I had no idea it was scented ink!

I forgot to add – the design on this shirt, although very clever, absolutely _DOES_ infringe on the Girl Scout’s trademark, as well as Naoko Takeuchi’s copyrights. It’s so sad that people are this clueless about how copyright and trademark work. (The same can be said for all of the other shirt designs you’ve posted about.) No matter how unfortunate someone may think it is, wittiness doesn’t make trademark infringement okay. (FYI, this isn’t a “parody” so it’s not “fair use”. They used the GSA logo as a base with SM characters, but aren’t making any sort of commentary on either group – they’re just drawing a connection with the word “scouts”.)

Boy Scouts is threatening to sue Hacker Scouts because they (clearly intentionally regardless of what they say) used the word “Scouts” in their name to draw a comparison to the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, which could absolutely be argued to infringe on the BSA and GSA’s trademarks because it can logically lead to people thinking the groups are related, which in turn could harm their brand images. It would be very hard to shows that using the term “Sailor Scouts” (which they wouldn’t use at this point anyway) in a cartoon would infringe, and neither group would bother to complain because the lawsuit would most likely be tossed out. (Now, if they tried to start an official SM fan club for kids and marketed it as “The Sailor Scouts”, THAT could be a problem.)
