He said that he’ve had the idea of such a book before knowing that fangirl, but then he got a letter from her and the main moonie character (the “little sister” who transformed into Sailor Moon and got in trouble with senshi-looking demons) was developed with the help of her bursting enthusiasm. Actually, the main character portraits her in some parts. The girl’s name was Luna Reikon and she was a nice writer and manga artist (though seems like her works were never published since there were no manga magazines in Russia at that time).

There were some rumors about this book, for example, about a teen SM fan-artist who helped Andrey in describing the “sailor” characters. Though this has never been confirmed. I’ve asked him about the background behind the plot, maybe he reveals something interesting.

This is not Sailor Moon. It’s absolutely unrelated fiction. But that book published in begining of 2000’s. These years Sailor Moon has very big popularity in Russia. So author take some characters from SM and main heroine was a big fan of Sailor Moon. We’re has some kind of Guardians here, also with Tuxedo Mask. But plot is very different.

Oh yeah, I didn’t notice the Angelina Jolie resemblance but 2001 was the year Tomb Raider came out, at the height of her popularity, so that would make total sense. I’ll add in a little note…
